Senior Backend Engineer - Ruby on Rails
About The Position
We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and building scalable backend solutions using Ruby on Rails. You will own technical architecture, API design, data models, and legacy modernization initiatives. You will also lead technical design discussions, document solutions for complex engineering challenges, review code, mentor engineers, and collaborate with Product, Design, and Engineering teams in an Agile environment. Additionally, you will diagnose production issues using AWS and Datadog, and drive technical improvements beyond assigned work, proactively identifying opportunities to improve the platform.
Requirements
- Expert-level Ruby on Rails development experience.
- Strong system design and software architecture experience.
- Experience designing APIs, database schemas, and complex backend systems.
- Proven ability to work autonomously and drive initiatives from idea through implementation.
- Strong code review, mentoring, and cross-team technical collaboration skills.
- Comfortable working in Scrum/Agile environments.
- Experience working with AWS and Datadog (or similar observability tools).
- AI fluency: Expert user of generative AI development tools with experience leveraging AI—including multi-agent orchestration—to accelerate software development.
- AI leadership: Proven ability to mentor engineers on AI-assisted development, establish team best practices, and drive adoption of effective AI engineering workflows.
