Senior Back-end Engineer
About The Position
VSG Recruitment is partnering with a fast-growing, venture-backed technology company that is developing an AI-powered data platform to help businesses extract insights from complex datasets and improve customer engagement. The Senior Backend Engineer will join an expanding engineering team and work on sophisticated engineering challenges, with influence over technical decisions and product development. The role focuses on building scalable backend services, distributed systems, high-performance APIs, data-processing infrastructure, and AI-powered functionality. The engineer will contribute to system architecture and infrastructure improvements while collaborating with leadership on technical strategy and product development. The position has a hybrid working arrangement in New York City.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of software engineering experience, primarily focused on backend development.
- Strong proficiency in Node.js, TypeScript, and JavaScript.
- Experience with PostgreSQL, Redis, and microservices architecture.
- Knowledge of distributed systems, API development, and scalable infrastructure.
- Experience with vector databases and RAG-based applications.
- Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, or similar infrastructure technologies.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with LLMs, Python, or machine learning.
- Background in SaaS, e-commerce, or data-intensive applications.
- Previous experience in an early-stage startup.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop scalable backend services and distributed systems.
- Build high-performance APIs and data-processing infrastructure.
- Develop AI-powered functionality using LLMs, vector databases, and RAG architectures.
- Optimize database performance, reliability, and system scalability.
- Build and maintain integrations with external platforms and services.
- Contribute to infrastructure improvements, system architecture, and engineering best practices.
- Collaborate closely with leadership on technical strategy and product development.
