About The Position

The Senior Azure Administrator role is responsible for the design, administration, security, optimization and operational excellence of the Microsoft Azure cloud environment. This role will drive cloud adoption, ensure compliance with industry standards, and support hybrid integration between on-premises and Azure environments and third party SAAS systems. This role ensures that security best practices are embedded across all aspects of Azure infrastructure, applications, and services. The Senior Azure Administrator collaborates with cross-functional teams to align security strategies with business objectives and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or equivalent degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in cloud security architecture, preferably with Azure.
  • Experience in hybrid and multicloud environments is a plus.
  • Good knowledge of good clinical practices, and applicable Health Canada and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations/guidelines.
  • Strong expertise in Microsoft Azure security services and architecture.
  • Experience with identity and access management (IAM), including Azure AD and Conditional Access.
  • Familiarity with cloud networking, firewalls, encryption, and secure APIs.
  • Knowledge of compliance frameworks and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Responsible for end-to-end design, implementation, and governance of cloud solutions with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain Azure security architecture aligned with Zero Trust principles.
  • Design secure solutions for identity, data, applications, networks, and infrastructure.
  • Implement security controls using Azure-native tools like Microsoft Defender, Sentinel, Key Vault, and Azure Policy.
  • Develop secure, high-performance Azure architectures for enterprise workloads.
  • Design hybrid solutions integrating Azure with on-premises infrastructure.
  • Define governance models, landing zones, and subscription strategies.
  • Define and enforce security policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., ISO 27001, NIST, GDPR, SOC2 and internal security policies).
  • Conduct risk assessments and security audits.
  • Monitor and respond to security incidents.
  • Integrate SIEM and SOAR tools for automated threat detection and response with 3rd party tools and SOC.
  • Participate and perform vulnerability assessments and penetration testing.
  • Implement Azure security best practices (Identity, RBAC, Key Vault, Defender).
  • Design and enforce network security (NSGs, firewalls, private endpoints).
  • Lead migration of legacy systems to Azure with minimal downtime.
  • Optimize cost and performance through monitoring and automation.
  • Have experience in mergers/migrations/acquisitions Azure AD Tenants and it’s impacts.
  • Work closely with IT, DevOps, to embed security in the SDLC and solution implementations.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to teams.
  • Communicate security risks and solutions to stakeholders.
  • Communicate architectural decisions to senior leadership.
  • Stay current with Azure innovations and security trends.
  • Document architecture standards and operational procedures.
