Senior Aws Cloud Data Migration
About The Position
The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) is seeking an experienced Cloud Data Migration Engineer to support enterprise cloud modernization initiatives by migrating Oracle workloads to Amazon Web Services (AWS). This role will be responsible for designing, implementing, and executing secure, scalable, and highly available data migration solutions using AWS Database Migration Service (DMS). The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in AWS infrastructure, cloud networking, ETL/ELT processes, automation, and hybrid cloud environments. This position requires extensive experience planning and executing enterprise-scale migration projects while minimizing downtime and ensuring data integrity.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 8+ years of IT experience supporting enterprise technology solutions.
- 8+ years of hands-on experience with AWS Database Migration Service (AWS DMS).
- Extensive experience migrating Oracle databases to AWS.
- Strong experience with: AWS EC2, Amazon RDS, Amazon S3, IAM, AWS Lambda
- Expertise in AWS networking: VPC, Subnets, Route Tables, Security Groups, VPN, AWS Direct Connect
- Experience implementing Infrastructure as Code using: Terraform, AWS CloudFormation
- Strong understanding of: ETL/ELT architectures, Data integration, Batch processing, Real-time streaming, Change Data Capture (CDC)
- Proficiency in scripting using: Python, Bash, PowerShell
- Experience with AWS CloudWatch and CloudTrail.
- Strong documentation and communication skills.
- Experience supporting hybrid cloud and legacy modernization projects.

Responsibilities
- Design and implement Oracle-to-AWS migration solutions using AWS Database Migration Service (DMS).
- Execute full-load, Change Data Capture (CDC), and real-time streaming data migrations.
- Develop migration strategies, cutover plans, rollback procedures, and validation processes.
- Configure and manage AWS networking components including VPCs, subnets, routing tables, security groups, VPNs, and Direct Connect.
- Deploy and manage AWS infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or CloudFormation).
- Build and optimize ETL/ELT pipelines supporting enterprise cloud migration initiatives.
- Develop automation scripts using Python, Bash, or PowerShell to streamline migration activities.
- Configure and monitor AWS CloudWatch and CloudTrail for system health, logging, and compliance.
- Collaborate with infrastructure, database, networking, and application teams throughout migration projects.
- Produce technical documentation, migration runbooks, architecture diagrams, and operational procedures.
- Support modernization of legacy on-premises systems into hybrid cloud environments.
- Troubleshoot migration issues and optimize cloud-based data solutions.
