About The Position

This role is for a Senior AVP Java Developer specializing in Equity Derivatives at Barclays. The purpose of the role is to design, develop, and improve software using various engineering methodologies to provide business, platform, and technology capabilities. The developer will work closely with the trading desk in New York on strategic growth and control projects, influencing high-value trading systems and driving business performance. The role involves developing and delivering high-quality, scalable, maintainable, and performance-optimized software solutions. Collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers is expected, as is participation in code reviews and knowledge sharing. Adherence to secure coding practices and implementation of effective unit testing are crucial. For individual contributors, they will lead collaborative assignments, guide team members, identify needs for other specializations, and identify new directions for assignments. Requirements

  • Core Java skills, including but not limited to Generics, Collections, Multithreading, I/O, Streams, and JDBC
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and debugging multithreaded Java code
  • Reviewing multi-layered of problems and translating solutions into programs using OOP fundamentals
  • Writing effective unit test cases, to validate solutions and ensure the reliability of your solutions
  • Technologies supporting Java development and deployment, including Spring, Maven, and XML
  • Equity Derivatives products and trade capture/lifecycle management

Nice To Haves

  • Experience developing and maintaining SOA-based applications in AWS
  • Familiarity with Oracle Coherence and relevant practical experience
  • Understanding of messaging platforms such as MQ and Solace, including design patterns for producing and consuming messages
  • Proficiency in Unix shell scripting and/or Python
  • Knowledge of containerization technologies, preferably Docker and Kubernetes

  • Lead a team performing complex tasks, using well developed professional knowledge and skills to deliver on work that impacts the whole business function.
  • Set objectives and coach employees in pursuit of those objectives, appraisal of performance relative to objectives and determination of reward outcomes.
  • Lead collaborative assignments and guide team members through structured assignments, identify the need for the inclusion of other areas of specialisation to complete assignments.
  • Identify new directions for assignments and/ or projects, identifying a combination of cross functional methodologies or practices to meet required outcomes.
