At the Senior level, the position carries increased responsibility for independent technical judgment, acquisition products, multidisciplinary integration, mentoring, technical leadership, and customer influence. The role supports avionics and systems engineering throughout the lifecycle, from requirements and design through integration, verification, fielding, modification, and sustainment.

Requirements

  • 9 years of relevant experience with a bachelor's degree in a related field; 7 years with a master's degree in a related field; 4 years with a Ph.D. or Juris Doctorate in a related field; or a high school diploma or equivalent and 13 years of relevant experience.
  • Active Secret clearance and ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance.
  • Significant experience with aircraft avionics, mission systems, embedded systems, complex electronic systems, aircraft modernization, or weapon-system integration.
  • Demonstrated experience independently leading systems-engineering activities involving requirements, architecture/design, interfaces, integration, verification, test, or technical-risk management.
  • Experience developing or leading technical reviews of system requirements, specifications, acquisition engineering documentation, architecture/design products, interface documentation, or technical baselines.
  • Experience applying Digital Engineering, MBSE, model-based analysis, requirements traceability, architecture modeling, or equivalent data/model-driven systems-engineering methods.
  • Experience integrating at least one adjacent engineering discipline into avionics or system-level engineering decisions, such as computer/cybersecurity engineering, EMS/spectrum, interoperability, test and evaluation, airworthiness/system safety, program protection, or certification.
  • Experience supporting Air Force or AFLCMC acquisition programs, military operations, and/or other military acquisition programs.
  • Ability to independently solve complex multidisciplinary problems and provide decision-quality technical recommendations to engineering and program leadership.
  • Demonstrated critical and creative thinking, accountability, ownership, mentoring, and commitment to excellence in technical and customer delivery.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with SysML, Cameo/MagicDraw, DOORS, Enterprise Architect, digital threads, authoritative sources of truth, or comparable Digital Engineering environments.
  • Experience with MIL-HDBK-516, MIL-STD-882, OSS&E, configuration management, V&V, or aircraft certification activities.
  • Demonstrated experience developing or leading reviews of RFP technical content, SOW/SOO, SRDs, specifications, SEPs, ICDs, DIDs/CDRLs, Technical Orders, contractor technical proposals, ECPs, or authorized technical proposal/source-selection support.
  • Experience across multiple specialized areas including AIMS/IFF, TEMPEST, Anti-Tamper, Program Protection, computer/cybersecurity engineering, ISP/interoperability, SSRA, EMS/spectrum management, EMC/EMI/E3, airworthiness, or developmental test and evaluation.

Responsibilities

  • Independently lead avionics and systems-engineering activities across requirements, architecture, design, integration, verification, test, certification, fielding, modification, sustainment, and technical-risk management.
  • Translate operational, mission, and program needs into clear, measurable, traceable, and verifiable system and subsystem requirements.
  • Lead analysis of system architectures, hardware/software interfaces, subsystem dependencies, technical baselines, design alternatives, integration impacts, and technical risks.
  • Develop and lead technical reviews of RFP requirements, SOW/SOO technical content, SRDs, system/subsystem specifications, SEPs, DIDs/CDRLs, ECPs, and other acquisition engineering products.
  • Review and evaluate system architecture/design documents, ICDs, interface configuration documentation, Technical Orders, engineering drawings, technical-data packages, configuration products, contractor proposals, and design-change documentation.
  • Apply Digital Engineering/MBSE and other model/data-driven systems-engineering methods to requirements traceability, architecture, interface management, system dependencies, configuration management, verification, and technical decision-making.
  • Lead resolution of multidisciplinary integration issues spanning avionics, software, computer engineering, cybersecurity, interoperability, test, and EMS/spectrum disciplines.
  • Review and integrate ISPs, SSRAs, EMS management/spectrum-supportability products, interoperability requirements, cybersecurity requirements, and related engineering artifacts.
  • Evaluate airworthiness, system safety, OSS&E, cybersecurity, certification, interoperability, and mission-assurance implications of system modifications.
  • Lead or support developmental testing, integration testing, verification/validation, certification, deficiency resolution, and technical-risk reduction activities.
  • Lead technical content and engineering recommendations for SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, FCA/PCA, TIMs, working groups, program reviews, and other lifecycle engineering activities.
  • Develop and brief engineering alternatives, trade studies, technical risks, and recommendations to program managers, chief engineers, IPT leadership, and senior customers.
  • Mentor less-experienced engineers and promote disciplined engineering practices, accountability, innovation, and technical quality.
