About The Position

The Automotive Senior Technician supports the Lab Supervisor and technical staff in the execution of automotive testing projects and laboratory operations. This role requires the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities while working independently with minimal supervision. The Senior Technician is responsible for operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and calibrating a variety of applications-based testing equipment, as well as planning, executing, and documenting laboratory testing and pilot trials at company, manufacturing, and customer facilities. Responsibilities include conducting routine and non-routine testing, analyzing and reporting results, maintaining accurate documentation, and ensuring compliance with established test methods, safety requirements, and quality standards. The Senior Technician also serves as a technical resource to the team, supports the development and improvement of testing methods and laboratory processes, leads or participates in continuous improvement initiatives, and may coordinate contractor activities related to the installation, maintenance, and repair of laboratory equipment. This position is based in North Charleston, SC.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in a technical or scientific field with 5+ years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor's degree in a scientific or technical field with 1-2 years of relevant laboratory experience.
  • Experience in an R&D, product development, or applications laboratory environment is required.
  • Equivalent experience, including 8+ years in a related laboratory environment, may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • The Senior Technician demonstrates advanced technical expertise and a proven ability to independently plan, prioritize, and execute complex testing and evaluation projects with minimal supervision.
  • Experience developing, executing, and troubleshooting automated test methods and data collection systems.
  • Programming or scripting experience for test automation, instrumentation, or data analysis is required.
  • Serves as a technical resource and provides guidance and mentoring to junior technicians.
  • Demonstrates a strong attention to detail and commitment to data integrity, accuracy, and quality.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify, investigate, and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite is required, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Nice To Haves

  • LabVIEW experience is preferred but not required.
  • Experience working in ISO 9001 and/or IATF 16949 certified environments is preferred.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, formulas, data visualization, and data analysis functions, are highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform various tests on automotive canisters to support customers, as well as, automotive carbon product development.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain equipment for automotive carbon testing.
  • Lead and participate in continuous improvement projects to enhance laboratory operations through the optimization of test methods, workflows, documentation practices, and data collection processes, improving efficiency, quality, consistency, and safety.
  • Assist in specification, design, and installation of specialized testing equipment in the Auto Lab.
  • Compile data and results on automotive testing, including electronic records of operating conditions and results of specialized testing equipment.
  • Participate in pilot trial campaigns in the lab and at off-site locations as needed.
  • Participate in Departmental safety effort through participation in regular safety meetings, and safety committees.
  • Perform monthly technical center safety inspection on a rotating basis.
  • Learn and assist with non-automotive applications and testing as-needed.
