About The Position

The Senior Automation Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining automated solutions that improve process and system efficiency, reliability, and scalability. This role provides technical leadership in automation frameworks, tools, and processes, working closely with cross-functional teams to optimize workflows, enhance software quality, and support business objectives. The Senior Automation Engineer mentors junior engineers and ensures best practices are applied across projects. This position assigns and oversees the daily work activities within the Automation Services department in conjunction with the AVP, Automation Services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Five to eight years of relevant and successful experience in automation engineering, test automation, DevOps, or related areas.
  • Proven track record of designing and implementing complex automation solutions at scale.
  • Strong programming skills (e.g., Python, Java, C#, JavaScript).
  • Experience with automation frameworks (e.g., Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, Robot Framework).
  • Proficiency with CI/CD tools (e.g., Azure DevOps, Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions).
  • Familiarity with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and infrastructure automation (Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation).
  • Experience with performance testing tools (JMeter, LoadRunner) and monitoring solutions.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience

Responsibilities

  • Leads the design and implementation of robust, scalable automation frameworks and solutions.
  • Develops, maintains, and optimizes automated test scripts, CI/CD pipelines, and system integrations.
  • Works with the VP of Business Systems, AVP of Automation along with lines of business to drive identification of automation opportunities within infrastructure, testing, operational workflows, and business processes.
  • Monitors, troubleshoots, and resolves automation-related issues to maintain high availability and system performance.
  • Implements performance testing, monitoring, and reporting automation.
  • Partners with VP Business Systems and AVP of Automation Services to define automation strategies.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert (SME) in automation technologies and methodologies.
  • Mentors and coaches junior engineers on automation best practices, coding standards, and problem-solving approaches.
  • Researches and recommends emerging automation tools and practices.
  • Drives process improvements to increase efficiency, reduce manual effort, and accelerate delivery.
  • Contributes to enterprise automation strategy and roadmap.
  • Provides technical assessments for complex automation initiatives and contributes to project plan development aligned with Tower’s requirements.
  • Serves as subject matter expert and team lead on projects requiring automation.
  • Coordinates the daily work of the Automation Services systems engineers to include helping prioritize tasks and determine work assignments and following through on tasks and functions to satisfactory completion.
  • Provides input to the AVP in reference to the performance management process.
  • Trains and mentors level I, II, and III Automation Engineers.
  • Ensures cross-training and support coverage for Tower’s automation infrastructure.
  • Functions as the AVP’s delegate during periods of absence.
  • Performs related duties when delegated.
