Senior Automation Engineer – Robotics Integration

Productivity IncPlymouth, MN
$110,000 - $130,000Onsite

About The Position

Productivity, Inc. is seeking a Senior Automation Engineer to join our growing Automation team in Plymouth, Minnesota. As a FANUC robot integrator, we design and build custom robotic automation systems for manufacturers, with a strong focus on integrating robotics with CNC machine tools and other manufacturing equipment. This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who understands the whole automation cell — robot, controls, mechanical design, vision, tooling, part presentation, safety, and machine interface. We are looking for an expert in FANUC robotics/integration who is strong in either controls or mechanical design, and sufficiently knowledgeable in the other discipline to design and troubleshoot an entire automation cell.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of automation, robotics, controls, or related engineering experience.
  • Strong experience with industrial robotic integration; FANUC experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience programming industrial robots and troubleshooting robotic systems.
  • Working knowledge of PLC controls, preferably Allen-Bradley/Studio 5000.
  • Mechanical design experience using SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software.
  • Understanding of EOAT, part presentation, conveyors, fixturing, pneumatics, and other automation components.
  • Knowledge of robotic and machine safety standards, including ANSI/RIA R15.06, ANSI B11, NFPA 79, and UL.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to independently work through complex engineering challenges.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with customers, technicians, engineers, sales, vendors, and other departments.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with ROBOGUIDE, iRVision, or comparable robot simulation/vision technologies is highly desirable.
  • Experience integrating robots with CNC machine tools or manufacturing equipment is a strong plus.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop custom robotic automation and machine-tending systems.
  • Interpret customer requirements and develop practical solutions within project scope, budget, and timeline.
  • Program and integrate FANUC robots using ROBOGUIDE and teach-pendant programming.
  • Develop 2D/3D vision applications, including FANUC iRVision.
  • Design mechanical automation components, including end-of-arm tooling, part presentation, guarding, fixtures, conveyors, and related equipment.
  • Develop electrical and controls solutions, including PLC/HMI programming, electrical design, and machine interfaces.
  • Size and select robots, grippers, servos, cylinders, conveyors, and other automation components.
  • Perform safety risk assessments and incorporate appropriate machine and robotic safety systems.
  • Create and maintain mechanical/electrical drawings, control logic, robot programs, and project documentation.
  • Work closely with Automation Technicians during cell build, testing, troubleshooting, installation, and startup.
  • Help develop new automation technologies and solutions for future projects.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to other engineers and technicians.

Benefits

  • Full-time, onsite work arrangement
  • Opportunity to design, program, build, and troubleshoot automation solutions
  • Work alongside an experienced team designing custom robotic systems
  • Resources and capabilities of an established FANUC integrator
