About The Position

The Campaign Finance Board (CFB) is a nonpartisan, independent city agency dedicated to making local democracy more open, transparent, and equitable. Our mission is to empower New Yorkers to participate more meaningfully in elections by providing trustworthy information, supporting candidates through public matching funds, and increasing transparency in campaign finance. The Auditing & Accounting Unit within the CFB is responsible for ensuring that candidates comply with the Campaign Finance Act and Board Rules, thereby maintaining the integrity of New York City’s matching funds program and disclosure requirements. This unit seeks Auditors to join their team to perform complex compliance, investigative, and financial audits of political campaigns.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity of Government auditing standards and practices, a plus
  • Fluency in multiple languages a plus
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and three years of experience in one or a combination of the following: financial administration, accounting, compliance or investigative auditing, fraud reviews, working with a large public or private concern in budget administration, economics, finance, fiscal or economic research, fiscal management, personnel or public administration, program evaluation; or a related area; OR a satisfactory combination of education and experience in the areas described above.
  • Previous experience in performing audits in accordance with Generally Accepted (Government) Auditing Standards strongly preferred.
  • A master’s degree is not required but will be a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complex compliance, investigative, and financial audits of political campaigns.
  • Analyze financial records and disclosure statements for desk and field financial, compliance and investigative audits of political campaigns.
  • Perform audits in accordance with Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards (GAGAS) and following internally developed specialized programs.
  • Manage a team of auditors and their assigned audit caseload in team structure in adherence with internal and external deadlines, coordinating with other CFB units as necessary.
  • Supervise, train and evaluate auditors.
  • Participate in planning activities of the audit team during the post-election period and coordinating the team’s activities with other CFB units.
  • Prepare and review written reports and correspondence that are clear, concise, accurate and timely.
  • Communicate with campaigns in a professional manner and assist in providing guidance to campaigns on various audit and compliance issues.
  • Communicate with management and other CFB units on various audit and compliance issues, compliance, investigation and enforcement actions.
  • Represent the Auditing and Accounting Unit as required on special projects.
  • Assist in hiring of Audit staff.
