About The Position

This position is primarily an in-person, on-campus role with the possibility of working remotely 1-2 days per week utilizing Zoom, Microsoft Teams, etc. to stay connected with co-workers and clients. Remote work schedule for this position will vary as dictated by project & operational timelines and may not be possible some weeks. The purpose of this role is to perform installation tasks for audio visual projects including but not limited to: pulling cable, installing connectors, mounting projectors and metal fabrication. The technician will also read and interpret electronic schematics and architectural blueprints.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or high school diploma/GED with four years of relevant experience.
  • Technical Schooling in AV or IT specific field/s.
  • Demonstrated experience with at least two of the following: DANTE networking, NVX networking, Crestron control system commissioning, DMX/Wireless DMX lighting control systems, AV networking, broadcast video production systems, or DSP audio processing systems.
  • Demonstrated excellent time management skills, punctuality, multitasking, attention to detail, and follow through.
  • Ability to work efficiently and flexibly in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated problem solving ability and strong critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness, initiative, and follow through in work situations.

Nice To Haves

  • Five years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with Crestron SIMPL, AutoCAD, Sketchup, Bluebeam REVU and/or Confluence Wikis.
  • Relevant industry certifications such as Avixa Certified Technology Specialist (CTS), Extron AV Associate Certification, and/or Crestron Professional Installation Certification.
  • Demonstrated experience with carpentry, electrical repair, electronic repair, mechanical repair, stagecraft, cinematography, media post-production, and/or TV production.
  • Demonstrated experience with work order systems.
  • Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of UT policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Builds and Installs AV/IT technology solutions following detailed engineering and project management documentation. Identifies potential pitfalls related to timeline, design, budget, and implementation.
  • Commissions and Calibrates AV/IT technology solutions following detailed engineering and project management documentation. Identifies potential pitfalls related to timeline, design, budget, and implementation. Coordinates the work of other staff and contractors performing the same.
  • Designs AV/IT technology solutions creating & reviewing detailed engineering drawings, equipment & cable lists, budgets, and project management documents using software such as AutoCAD, Visio, MS Office, & various project management tools.
  • Provides tier-2 escalation support to Comm-IT Services & Production teams for AV/IT incidents.
  • Provides prompt and effective equipment maintenance/repair services in response to service orders for repair or maintenance of classroom AV equipment. Maintains deployed & hot-spare equipment in a state of readiness.
  • Consults with faculty and staff to develop new technology and improve existing technology solutions. Provide purchasing recommendations, solution design and setup consultation for faculty and staff.
  • Identifies client needs based on their desired requirements and provides thoughtful assessment of feasibility, support cost and financial cost for implementing the required solutions.
  • Provides testing and reports on quality assurance measures (such as audio or video calibration) for developed projects or equipment. Provides project documentation and training. Maintain accurate records in help ticket system, wikis, etc.
  • Creates written documentation such as application papers and written operating procedures for equipment systems which improve upon manufacturer’s documentation for equipment systems and/or provide concise instructions for use based on the Technical Staff Assistant’s practical experience with the equipment. Documentation shall be authored for a variety of audiences including technical support staff, instructors, and end users.
