About The Position

The Senior Attorney role supports court rules committees. This position is responsible for assisting committee chairs in preparing and submitting rule amendments, finalizing and filing pleadings with the Supreme Court, coordinating meetings, maintaining records, and reviewing legal materials to stay current on relevant subjects. The role also involves assisting the public and Florida Bar members with rule-related questions and evaluating committee members.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate
  • Member of The Florida Bar in good standing
  • Three (3) years of legal experience as an attorney
  • Four (4) years of experience in writing, editing, legal research or related field
  • Knowledge of legal research techniques
  • Knowledge of The Rules Regulating The Florida Bar
  • Knowledge of the rule making process and Supreme Court guidelines
  • Proficiency in MS Outlook
  • Proficiency in Adobe Acrobat
  • Excellent English, spelling, grammar, and punctuation skills
  • Proficiency in MS Word and Excel
  • Proficiency in Adobe Professional
  • Legal research skills
  • Ability to coordinate committees
  • Ability to interpret policies and procedures
  • Ability to think logically and solve problems
  • Ability to create ADA compliant forms and documents using Adobe
  • Ability to organize work and determine priorities
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, both verbally and in writing

Responsibilities

  • Assists committee chairs in preparing and submitting rule amendments to the Board of Governors.
  • Finalizes and files petitions, comments, and other pleadings with the Supreme Court, ensuring compliance with Supreme Court style guide and ADA requirements.
  • Coordinates scheduling of committee and subcommittee meetings.
  • Prepares and distributes agendas and minutes for committee and subcommittee meetings.
  • Posts materials to committees' web pages.
  • Attends committee and subcommittee meetings.
  • Maintains records of all committee business, including agendas, minutes, and Supreme Court filings.
  • Maintains a docket of files in progress and assists chairs to meet deadlines.
  • Ensures the department head is informed of potential issues or concerns regarding committee activities.
  • Reviews case law, legislative material, rules, and other publications to stay current on subjects covered by rules committees.
  • Updates and reviews web pages to ensure current rules are posted.
  • Assists the public and Florida Bar members with questions related to rules committees.
  • Maintains records of member attendance at committee meetings.
  • Evaluates committee members.
  • Advises the president-elect on committee member and officer appointments.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
