About The Position

The City of Atlanta Law Department is seeking a Senior Attorney IV for its Litigation Division. The ideal candidate will possess at least ten (10) years of defensive litigation experience in general civil and/or employment litigation in state and federal courts, including appellate work. Preference will be given to candidates with substantial first and/or second chair trial experience and experience working collaboratively with other attorneys and staff. The role involves handling all stages of administrative hearings and litigation, including strategy development, discovery, depositions, settlement negotiation, and mediation. The Senior Attorney IV will also manage paralegals and/or other litigation support staff. Experience in researching and drafting legislation is considered a plus. This position reports directly to the Deputy City Attorney for Litigation and involves significant interaction with the Atlanta City Council, various City Departments, and municipal governing bodies. Strong research, communication, analytical skills, sound judgment, professionalism, and interpersonal skills are essential for success in this fast-paced legal and political environment.

Requirements

  • At least ten (10) years of defensive litigation experience in general civil and/or employment litigation in state and federal courts, including appellate work
  • Substantial first and/or second chair trial experience
  • Experience working as part of a team, independently, and with Assistant and Associate Attorneys
  • Juris Doctorate degree
  • Member in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia
  • At least ten (10) years of post-graduate legal experience
  • Strong research, and written and oral communication skills
  • Analytical skills

  • Interpersonal skills necessary to contribute to a litigation team handling complex legal matters in a fast-paced legal and political environment
