About The Position

The Senior Counsel – Employment Law serves as a strategic legal advisor to People & Culture (Human Resources), business leaders, and Legal Department colleagues on the full spectrum of employment law and litigation matters. The ideal candidate is a trusted advisor who combines deep employment law expertise with strong business acumen, executive presence, and a client-service mindset. The successful candidate will be comfortable leading complex matters independently, influencing stakeholders at all levels of the organization, and delivering practical solutions that enable business success while effectively managing legal risk. This position reports to the Associate General Counsel – North America and operates as an individual contributor.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active license to practice law and membership in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of legal experience in a major law firm, in-house legal department, or combination thereof.
  • Significant experience advising on sophisticated employment law matters within a complex, multi-state organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively leverage artificial intelligence and emerging legal technology tools to improve efficiency, support decision-making, identify legal and compliance risks, and deliver timely, business-focused legal guidance.
  • Experience managing employment litigation and outside counsel.
  • Strong project management, organization, and prioritization skills.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Proven ability to influence and build relationships with executives, human resources professionals, and business leaders.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in: Americans with Disabilities Act, Age Discrimination in Employment Act, Employment agreements and restrictive covenants, Family and Medical Leave Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, Fair Labor Standards Act, National Labor Relations Act, Reductions in force and separation agreements, Title VII and related anti-discrimination laws, Wage and hour compliance, Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, Workplace investigations

Responsibilities

  • Advise on a broad range of employment law matters, including: Hiring and recruitment, Performance management, Disciplinary actions and terminations, Reductions in force and restructuring initiatives, Employee classification, Wage and hour compliance, Leaves of absence and accommodation, Discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and workplace investigations, Restrictive covenants and employment agreements
  • Provide practical, business-oriented legal advice balancing legal compliance, operational objectives, and employee experience.
  • Develop and maintain strong partnerships with People & Culture, executive leadership, compliance professionals, and business stakeholders.
  • Manage employment-related disputes, claims, and litigation from pre-claim through resolution.
  • Respond to attorney demand letters, administrative charges, government inquiries, and agency investigations.
  • Oversee outside counsel handling employment litigation, labor matters, and other workforce-related disputes, including: Litigation strategy, Budget management, Case assessment, Settlement evaluation, Review of pleadings and legal submissions
  • Monitor and interpret legislative, regulatory, and case law developments.
  • Communicate legal developments and emerging risks to stakeholders and help implement strategic responses.
  • Partner with People & Culture to develop policies, handbooks, codes of conduct, and employment-related processes.
  • Draft and support continuous improvement of employment-related agreements, including confidentiality agreements, restrictive covenants, separation agreements, and settlement agreements.
  • Design and deliver training programs on employment law topics as needed.
