About The Position

New York Life Ventures is hiring a Senior Associate to join the Investments team. As a key member of the investment team, the successful candidate will make an immediate impact by employing a data- and network-driven approach to identifying investment opportunities in areas of thematic relevance to New York Life. This individual will own and drive workstreams across the end-to-end investment process, including evaluation, research, due diligence, transaction execution, and portfolio management across both direct and fund investments. Given New York Life Ventures’ strategic investment mandate, the role also requires evaluating opportunities based on both financial return and strategic value, while contributing to the refinement and evolution of investment themes.

Requirements

  • Thoughtful, highly analytical mindset paired with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate well-informed viewpoints
  • 5–7+ years of experience in private equity, venture capital, or a related field (e.g., corporate development, investment banking, strategy consulting, fund-of-funds, or technology strategy roles)
  • Demonstrated or developing subject-matter expertise in areas such as fintech, insurtech, AI/ML, enterprise software, data infrastructure, or cybersecurity, with the ability to build a differentiated point of view
  • Strong intellectual curiosity and drive to learn, create value, and operate in a collaborative team environment
  • Passion for the evolving technology landscape within and adjacent to financial services
  • Advanced financial modeling and presentation skills (Excel, PowerPoint) and strong written/verbal communication abilities
  • Proficiency using generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude) to accelerate research, synthesize information, and improve productivity
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a balance of confidence, humility, and integrity
  • Strong critical thinking skills and the ability to develop and defend informed opinions

Responsibilities

  • Source, research, and evaluate companies for potential investment and strategic opportunities
  • Lead evaluation of venture fund opportunities, including diligence, modeling, and referencing
  • Own deal screening and drive due diligence workstreams from initial evaluation through transaction execution
  • Manage assigned portfolio companies and fund relationships post-investment, including performance tracking, valuation analysis, and quarterly reporting
  • Build and maintain relationships with company founders, executives, and fund general partners, serving as a primary point of contact
  • Conduct industry research, total addressable market (TAM) analysis, and competitive landscaping to inform investment decisions
  • Develop financial models and analyze company and fund performance metrics to support investment recommendations
  • Author executive-level investment memos and portfolio materials; present recommendations to senior leadership and the investment committee
  • Partner with startup partnership teams and NYL business stakeholders to identify and unlock strategic opportunities across the portfolio
  • Lead thematic research to shape investment focus areas, develop perspectives on emerging trends, and inform strategic priorities
