About The Position

We are seeking a Director (Senior Associate level) to join our Technology Practice. Directors typically have a primary and a secondary Practice, with Technology being the primary. This position sits within our Technology Practice, led by Rob Wilkes, and focuses on C-level technology officer searches (CTO, CIO, CDO, and CISO) as well as broader executive search engagements across the technology sector. In this role, you will operate at the leading edge of search in an entrepreneurial, high-growth, and values-focused firm. Key responsibilities and opportunities include end-to-end involvement in search delivery and execution, front-of-client exposure and a voice in shaping search strategy, direct engagement with CTOs, CIOs, CISOs, and senior technology leaders across industries, close partnership with Senior Partners and Managing Directors on high-profile search engagements, and a merit-driven path to expanding search ownership and client responsibilities based on impact, not tenure. The role operates within a fully remote model with a nationally distributed team. Our Technology Practice partners with industry-leading organizations such as Intuit, Google, PayPal, Robinhood, and leading private equity-backed businesses. In five years, Modern has grown to over $40M in revenue (30–40% YoY), partnered with 200+ Fortune 500 companies, maintains an average search fee of approximately $170K, and operates the largest paid CHRO community in the world with 400+ members from companies generating $5B+ in revenue. Directors typically manage six concurrent searches and deliver approximately 14+ searches annually.

Requirements

  • 5+ years in retained executive search or senior-level executive recruiting
  • Experience managing multiple concurrent executive searches
  • Demonstrated ownership of research strategy and market mapping (90%+ accuracy expected)
  • Experience conducting executive-level interviews (VP, SVP, C-suite)
  • Strong executive presence and communication skills
  • High standards for quality and accountability

Nice To Haves

  • Technology executive search experience within enterprise environments is strongly preferred, but those with an interest in technology executive search will be considered.
