Senior Associate, Strategic Advisory

LiminalNew York, NY
$145,000 - $175,000Hybrid

About The Position

In this role, you take full responsibility for a workstream, guiding it from the initial question all the way to the final answer. Moving up from Associate is less about doing more work and more about using your judgment. As an Associate, you focus on building the analysis while someone else interprets it. In this role, you decide what the analysis means, document your conclusions, and present them to the client. You will begin managing Associates on your workstream, which is often the first real management experience for many. This change is more significant than it might seem, and we will support you through it. Each engagement includes a senior executive sponsor and a practice leader, so you will gain early client exposure with strong support. From your first month, you will join working sessions, and there will always be a senior team member present who knows the account well.

Requirements

  • At least four years of experience in management consulting, strategy consulting, investment banking, corporate strategy, or a similar field.
  • Held at least one role where you managed a workstream and made recommendations.
  • Experience being the person who provides answers in meetings, rather than just taking notes.
  • Able to quickly turn an unclear brief into a clear plan, usually within a day.
  • Skilled in PowerPoint, Excel, and Google Workspace. Able to build reliable models and create concise presentations that a CEO can understand quickly.
  • Use AI tools in your work and have clear views on when they are helpful and when they are not.
  • Comfortable leading junior colleagues and helping them improve their work.
  • A real interest in identity, fraud, financial crime, cybersecurity, and the regulations related to these areas.

Nice To Haves

  • Worked at MBB, LEK, Parthenon, Monitor Deloitte, a Big 4 strategy practice, or a strong boutique.
  • Experience in M&A, corporate development, or investment analysis.
  • Prior work with identity, fraud, cybersecurity, or financial services.
  • Experience mentoring junior consultants.
  • Deep knowledge of a market.
  • Building prompt chains or agent workflows that others have used.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a workstream from start to finish. This includes defining the question, choosing the method, conducting the analysis, writing the answer, and defending your conclusions.
  • Oversee one or two Associates, set the approach for their work, review their output, and help them improve.
  • Be responsible for a section of the client deliverable, which includes making recommendations as well as providing supporting evidence.
  • Handle more challenging tasks, such as war game rounds, buyer interview programs, and diligence workstreams, with only light supervision.
  • Be the main point of contact for the client's team between formal meetings. Answer questions in real time, manage expectations, and keep the project moving forward.
  • Review our data critically, adapt platform insights to each engagement, and let the team know if the standard answer does not fit the client's needs.
  • Bring to the team's attention if a client has another problem related to our current work. Identifying these opportunities often leads to more projects.
