About The Position

We're hiring an Engineering Services individual for our Sterling, VA facility. This is a hands-on, lab-based role where you'll be building, assembling, and testing photonic components and systems. You don't need photonics experience to apply, what matters most is that you have experience with precision assembly, machine shop work, you're technically capable, and you understand engineering processes. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. Graduate Degree or equivalent with 0 to 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 6 years of prior related experience.
  • Active TS/SCI clearance with Poly.

Responsibilities

  • Perform fabrication, assembly, integration, test, or inspection processes in accordance with detailed work instructions and drawings, such as: Optical Fiber Splicing and Recoating, Fabrication, assembly, and inspection of photonic circuits, Mechanical Builds and Assemblies, Metal Soldering, Microscopy and Profilometry.
  • Communicate regularly with management to ensure team is meeting expectations for cost, schedule, and quality.
  • Ensure preventative maintenance is performed regularly in accordance with documentation and provide support and content towards future document revisions.
  • Maintain and operate wire bonding, photomasking, epoxy application, and other systems commonly used for optical device fabrication.
  • Maintain high standards for cleanliness, workspace organization, and reliability.
  • Develop and implement engineering solutions to support production and R&D efforts.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members.
  • Build, assemble, and fabricate precision components following detailed work instructions, engineering drawings, and established processes.
  • Machine parts using shop equipment and standard tooling, applying shop math skills (ratios, graphs, algebra, and geometry) to ensure accuracy.
  • Test, align, and inspect precision assemblies and systems to verify they meet quality standards.
  • Operate various technical equipment and instrumentation, following procedures and recipes for different devices and programs.
  • Communicate regularly with management about cost, schedule, and quality to keep the team on track.
