About The Position

The Senior Associate Dean and Nurse Administrator provides academic and administrative leadership for the Kramer School of Nursing and serves as the designated Nurse Administrator for purposes of ACEN accreditation and Oklahoma Board of Nursing program approval. Reporting directly to the Dean of the College of Nursing and Health Professions, the Senior Associate Dean holds the authority and accountability required of the Nurse Administrator under Oklahoma Board of Nursing rules, including direct responsibility for administration of the School’s nursing education program, preparation and administration of the School budget, implementation of faculty development programs, and recommendation of qualified faculty for appointment, promotion, tenure (if applicable), and retention. The Senior Associate Dean ensures compliance and alignment with applicable accreditation and regulatory body standards and reporting requirements. As a senior member of college leadership, the Senior Associate Dean and Nurse Administrator works collaboratively with the Dean in providing strategic and operational direction for the College.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree required; degree must be in nursing, or a related field with a Master of Science in Nursing also held.
  • Evidence of current practice with a minimum of five (5) years full-time equivalent practice as a Registered Nurse in a clinical setting, preceding the first date of employment as faculty per requirements of the Oklahoma Nursing Practice Act and Rules and Regulations of said Act. 485:10-5-3.2 (2024)
  • Minimum of five (5) years teaching experience at the baccalaureate level or higher in nursing
  • Demonstrated knowledge of nursing accreditation standards (ACEN or CCNE) and Oklahoma Board of Nursing requirements
  • Hold a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Oklahoma (or receive licensure before start date)

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the academic programs of the Kramer School of Nursing, ensuring compliance with requirements of the Board of Trustees, the President, and applicable accreditation bodies, and keeping the Dean informed of program status and significant developments.
  • Supports continuous improvement of nursing education programs by contributing to the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of School programs under the Dean's direction.
  • Assures that adequate provisions are made to advise nursing students regarding their academic programs.
  • Oversees the day-to-day quality of instruction and availability of academic resources.
  • Teaches courses as assigned based on programmatic and operational needs.
  • Retains nursing expertise through continued education and practice.
  • Holds primary responsibility for preparation and administration of the KSN budget with faculty input; monitors expenditures and ensures fiscal operations align with the allocation framework established in coordination with the Dean.
  • Supports the Dean in organizing the School to efficiently administer its academic and administrative programs and committees.
  • Administers the Office of the Senior Associate Dean in a manner that fosters responsiveness to students, faculty, senior university management, and other university offices, in alignment with the Dean's direction.
  • Directs faculty development and evaluation processes; makes recommendations to the Dean regarding promotion, tenure, and retention; and oversees faculty workload and overload policies consistent with accreditation standards and OBN requirements.
  • Assists with schedule development and faculty teaching assignments, subject to Dean approval.
  • Supports recruitment, hiring, and orientation of faculty and staff for the School in coordination with the Dean, assuring that qualifications meet professional accreditation standards.
  • Monitors School faculty and staff capacity and brings workforce needs to the Dean's attention.
  • Manages staff time records and leave requests as assigned.
  • Coordinates financial aid awarded by the School as directed by the Dean and university policy.
  • Serves as the designated Nurse Administrator and primary institutional authority on nursing accreditation, bringing specialized expertise in ACEN or CCNE standards.
  • Leads all accreditation activities for the KSN, including self-study preparation, site visit coordination, and ongoing compliance with ACEN or CCNE standards and Oklahoma Board of Nursing approval requirements.
  • Keeps the Dean informed of accreditation status, findings, and required actions, translating nursing-specific accreditation requirements into institutional context.
  • Directs program assessment processes to ensure continuous quality improvement in alignment with accreditation standards.
  • Responsible for notification to the Oklahoma Board of Nursing of faculty appointments, changes in the program or its administration, and reports as directed by the Board.
  • Adheres to all policies within the Oklahoma City University Faculty Handbook and the KSN Employee Handbook.
  • Contributes to the strategic planning processes of the School and the College of Nursing and Health Professions under the Dean's leadership.
  • Supports the School executive board and serves as a liaison between the School, the university, and the broader nursing community, as directed by the Dean.
  • Maintains collaborative working relationships with other academic and administrative offices on campus on behalf of the School.
  • Participates in university-wide activities and committees as appropriate or as directed by the Dean or university senior leadership.
  • Serves as representative to nursing education and service organizations as designated by the Dean.
  • Represents the School in local, state, national, and international settings through public speaking and other roles, as authorized by the Dean.
  • Supports fundraising efforts for the School in coordination with and under the direction of the Dean.
  • Participates in externally validated scholarly activities and professional organizations as both member and leader.
  • Serves as a resource in areas of expertise to faculty, personnel, and the community.
