About The Position

The LA28 Sustainability team is responsible for working across the organization to deliver a more environmentally sustainable Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2028. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Climate, the Senior Associate, Climate will be responsible for supporting the implementation of the Carbon Management and Reduction Plan and the refinement of the baseline carbon footprint for the LA28 Games. The Senior Associate, Climate will also support broader sustainability data management (reporting, collection, and tracking) across multiple areas (e.g., carbon, waste, water) across the organization. This role spans supporting systems and programs for carbon measurement and reduction across the organization, including data governance mechanisms. It also involves engaging with internal teams to ensure that carbon reduction and other sustainability strategies are being implemented. The role requires technical knowledge of carbon accounting, mitigation best practices, and reduction strategies, as well as excellent stakeholder management skills and an ability to deliver in a fast-paced environment. The candidate should also have experience in the broader Sustainability and ESG atmosphere.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of relevant experience in conducting carbon footprint assessments and implementing carbon reduction strategies.
  • Experience managing carbon measurement and reporting at complex organizations.
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong familiarity with GHG Protocol and current best practices for carbon measurement, specifically Scope 3.
  • Strong familiarity with US-based and global emission factor databases.
  • Experience with data governance and management in complex organizations.
  • Experience supporting the implementation of successful carbon reduction programs within complex organizations.
  • Familiarity with carbon reporting platforms including CDP, SBTi, ISSB, IFRS, SASB/TCFD, CSRD/ESRS, etc. Preferred: experience reporting to one or more of these platforms.
  • Strong familiarity with climate regulatory landscape, particularly in California.
  • Experience communicating climate strategies while navigating greenwashing regulations.
  • Experience working in a complex and fast-paced work environment where tasks change on a daily basis.
  • Extremely detail oriented with excellent organizational skills.
  • Strong communication skills both in-person and over email.
  • Fluent in Office suite, specifically Microsoft Excel.
  • Comfortable with very large, Excel-based data sets.
  • Experience working with/in complex organizations.
  • Self-starter that thrives both independently and in a close-knit team environment.
  • Comfortable asking questions and receiving and implementing feedback.
  • A collaborative mindset: someone who prioritizes the team and fosters a culture of high performance without ego.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field

  • Preferred experience with EcoInvent software.

Responsibilities

  • Support in the implementation of carbon reduction strategies across key functional areas.
  • Support the management of organization-wide data systems. This includes data reporting, collection, QAQC, and tracking for all sustainability needs (e.g., carbon, waste, water) from all suppliers across the organization.
  • Manage data collection processes on an annual basis and set up a data collection process for post-Games reporting.
  • Continuously refine the carbon footprint forecast based on operational updates and reduction strategy implementation.
  • Track and report progress against all LA28 climate targets.
  • Support in the implementation of internal carbon pricing mechanisms.
  • Support third party verification of our carbon footprint.
  • Monitor relevant regulatory developments and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local requirements regarding climate.

Benefits

  • The annual base salary range for this position is $73,000 - $98,000.
