A DAY IN THE LIFE Our Senior Associate Chemist (Environmental Consulting, Seller-Doer) role can be performed either hybrid out of Valley Forge, PA, Knoxville, TN, or fully remote. This position supports senior chemistry leadership on environmental investigations, chemistry consulting, and business development. As a key member of the Chemistry and Data Quality Solutions team, this role will be responsible for a range of activities which may include (without limitation):

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Environmental Science, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of environmental consulting experience, including Project Management and proven client development experience.
  • Strong understanding of analytical chemistry principles and environmental data usability.
  • Familiarity with environmental data management systems such as EQuIS or Envirodata.
  • US EPA methods and regional guidance for the collection of environmental samples.
  • US EPA methods for the preparation and analysis of environmental samples.
  • Analytical chemistry principles and application to environmental data review.
  • Interpretation and data usability assessment and US EPA data validation guidelines.
  • Environmental data management systems such as EQuIS.
  • Requirements for Sampling Analysis Plans, Quality Assurance Project Plans, or similar project control documents.
  • Environmental investigation or remediation project management.
  • Expert witness and litigation support.
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Capable of performing tasks such as: creating spreadsheets; composing correspondence; and creating reports and documents using Microsoft® Office software.
  • Strong knowledge of Adobe® Acrobat.

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing environmental analytical data for completeness, correctness, usability, conformance with method requirements, and applicability.
  • Supporting litigation, regulatory inquiries, and technical reviews by producing clear, defensible scientific analyses and/or visualizations.
  • Critically evaluating environmental analytical data to assess usability relative to data quality objectives.
  • Preparing and/or providing technical review of data quality and usability assessment reports and preparing technical deliverables.
  • Preparing or critically reviewing environmental sampling plans, quality assurance project plans (QAPPs), and data management plans.
  • Preparing technical memoranda, expert report sections, and presentation materials.
  • Participating in client discussions to explain analytical results, provide chemistry consulting, and interpretation of analytical data.
  • Supporting quality reviews of laboratory data, method summaries, and QA documentation.
  • Contributing to the preparation of project scopes, proposals, and cost estimates.
  • Providing meaningful technical and marketing input to support the growth of the company’s Chemistry and Data Quality Solutions practice.
  • Actively participating in business development (BD) and growth initiatives.
  • Identifying qualified leads and developing successful proposals to establish a book of work.
  • Attending client and business/industry meetings.
  • Attending and presenting at conferences.
  • Maintaining or exceeding billability goals with the balance of time dedicated to effective BD efforts.
  • Keeping up-to-date and current on industry trends by completing formal training, reviewing professional publications, and attending professional workshops.
  • Strong scientific writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate in a remote, fast-paced consulting environment.
  • High attention to detail and scientific defensibility.
  • Comfortable working with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Practice safe work practices by following all Company safety rules and OSHA regulations, including attendance at all required safety training programs.
  • Participating in continuous improvement programs and providing support to team efforts.
  • The position may require travel and an occasional overnight stay.
  • Travel to offices, project sites, and project meetings on an as-needed basis.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
