About The Position

JPI is seeking a Senior Architectural Project Manager to lead the design and production of multifamily projects. The ideal candidate will bring 10-15 years of multifamily experience and a proven ability to deliver high-quality architectural solutions in a fast-paced environment. This key leadership role within our Architectural Production Studio will have the chance to shape JPI's multifamily design direction and grow with us as we expand our architectural capabilities. You'll take conceptual designs created by an Architectural Designer into schematic design, design development, construction documents, and ultimately the IFC set, ensuring thorough coordination at each phase. Once in CA, you will communicate with the Architectural CA Manager to ensure the design intent and project-specific details are carried out seamlessly through the construction process. Strong leadership skills and expertise in multifamily architectural codes and construction detailing are essential, along with the ability to collaborate with our Development (Land Acq & Project Close), Pre-Construction, Investment Management, Construction, and Owner’s Rep (SFX & DFX) teams. Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture or related field.
  • Minimum of 10 – 15 years of experience in architectural site plan and elevation design, with a focus on multifamily projects in the U.S.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, Bluebeam Revu, Procore.
  • Proficiency in typical office software - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams.
  • Strong understanding of zoning regulations, building codes, and industry standards relevant to multifamily development.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively convey design concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Proven leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate team members towards shared goals.
  • Passion for innovation and technology, with a willingness to embrace new tools and methodologies to improve the design process with constructability and coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the design consultant project lead for multiple multifamily projects, overseeing all phases from schematic design to the start of construction administration.
  • Direct the production of schematic design (SD), design development (DD), and construction documents (CD) to ensure they meet the highest standards of code compliance, design intent, quality, and accuracy.
  • Utilize a kit of parts approach to architectural design, leveraging pre-approved components to streamline the design process and maximize efficiency.
  • Utilize Autodesk ACC to review and comment on work created by junior architects and outsourced drafting teams on a weekly basis to ensure milestones are achieved through the design process.
  • Use Procore to review and comment on other design consultants' work, ensuring coordination milestones are met at the appropriate stages.
  • Lead, teach and mentor a team of junior architects and outsourced drafting teams so that they learn the intricacies of relevant codes, multifamily architectural design principles and construction detailing requirements to ensure cohesive project deliverables.
  • Collaborate closely with consultants (external and internal) and other project stakeholders to ensure coordinated and completed project delivery.
  • Work closely with the VP of Design, the Architectural Production Studio Director and the Architectural CA Studio Director to make sure projects are staffed and produced at expected levels.
  • Drive schedules on a weekly basis to ensure the project meets the expectations set at the project kickoff.
  • Collaborate with internal Structural and ID teams, Development (Land Acq & Project Close), Pre-Construction, Investment Management, Construction, and Owner’s Rep (SFX & DFX) teams to integrate architectural design requirements into overall project planning.
  • Ensure that all design and documentation deliverables adhere to building codes, JPI standards, and construction quality requirements.
  • Conduct regular reviews to maintain consistency and accuracy.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for projects, effectively communicating project status, managing expectations, and addressing any concerns promptly.
  • Manage project timelines and resources to ensure that milestones and deliverables are met according to the project schedule.
  • Maintain a daily view of the overall project to keep work progressing consistently.
  • Contribute creative design solutions that keep cost, constructability, and rentability at the forefront.
  • Stay updated on the latest trends, technologies, and best practices in multifamily architecture and construction, integrating them into the design and documentation process.
  • Assist architectural designers in validating or creating designs when workload demands.
  • Perform a detailed review of the initial site plan and elevation work, collaborating closely with the SfX Team and front-end designers.
  • Ensure compliance with zoning codes, constructability, and alignment with the project's strategic vision.
  • Assess the application of the “kit of parts” approach in the site plan, focusing on standardization to streamline future production efforts while maintaining design integrity.
  • Conduct a thorough review of the concept set, ensuring it is complete and aligns with the overall project strategy.
  • Provide feedback and markups to ensure readiness for the next design phase.
  • Review elevation designs and create markups to provide feedback for both internal team discussions and external presentations.
  • Coordinate with the Architectural Production Studio Director to review third-party design consultant proposals to ensure scope covers project objectives.
  • Partner closely with civil engineers to ensure the design considers all site-specific constraints, such as floodplains, right-of-ways (ROWs), and environmental parameters, balancing aesthetics and technical requirements.
  • Set the FF of each building with the civil engineer.
  • Facilitate coordination between in-house teams and external consultants, ensuring all stakeholders (structural, MEP, interior design, and landscape architecture) are aligned and progressing according to the project schedule.
  • Lead the production of a fully coordinated Schematic Design (SD) set in Revit, managing both in-house and outsourced resources, and ensuring timely delivery via Procore to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Actively participate in value engineering discussions during the SD phase, balancing cost considerations with design integrity to meet project goals without compromising quality.
  • Lead detailed reviews of design development (DD) sets, providing comprehensive feedback to junior staff and outsourced teams.
  • Ensure all drawings meet project specifications and JPI’s high-quality standards.
  • Seamlessly integrate all approved value engineering items from the schematic phase into the DD set, maintaining the balance between design innovation and cost-efficiency.
  • Lead coordination efforts across all disciplines (architectural, structural, MEP) through the DD Pageturn meeting.
  • Ensure full collaboration between internal and external teams, identifying and resolving any design conflicts early in the process.
  • Issue the DD set and the DD Revised set through SharePoint and actively participate in design discussions to ensure feedback is incorporated promptly.
  • Proactively address any design concerns arising during value engineering (VE) meetings, safeguarding both cost control and the design intent.
  • Oversee the creation and review of Construction Documents (CD), ensuring consistency with the Design Development phase and integrating any approved VE adjustments.
  • Lead the team through detailed markups and feedback loops, providing clear direction to junior and outsourced staff.
  • Lead the CD Pageturn meeting with all consultants to ensure a fully coordinated CD Revised set intended for GMP pricing.
  • Ensure the CD Revised set incorporates all necessary updates based on third-party waterproofing and accessibility reviews, maintaining full compliance with legal and construction standards.
  • Manage the issuance of the CD set for permit submittal by the DFX team.
  • Ensure that all permit comments received are responded to as quickly as possible and within the schedule created by the development and ownership teams.
  • Manage the issuance of the CD Revised set for GMP pricing.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure all final clarifications and adjustments are included, leading the team through final VE discussions without compromising project goals.
  • Verify that all permit comments, remaining coordination items, remaining accessibility comments, and remaining waterproofing comments are implemented into a final IFC set.
  • Prepare the project for handoff to the Architectural CA Manager.
  • Uses approved enterprise AI tools (e.g., Claude Cowork, Microsoft Copilot) to draft, summarize, analyze, and accelerate everyday work.
  • Rigorously reviews any AI-created or AI-modified work, applying sound judgment to verify accuracy, tone, and appropriateness before using or sharing it.
  • Follows company data handling, confidentiality, and acceptable-use policies when working with AI tools and sensitive information.
  • Demonstrates curiosity and willingness to adopt new tools; actively participates in AI training, office hours, and adoption campaigns.
  • Uses AI assistants to reduce manual effort on routine tasks (email drafting, meeting notes, document summarization, basic research).
  • Other duties as assigned.
