This job is responsible for defining an architectural vision and solution that supports the strategic outcomes of the Business' Products and Services. Key responsibilities include defining the target operating environment, designing for client resiliency, assisting with solution design, and defining non-functional requirements. Job expectations include working with stakeholders and service providers aligned to the Business' strategic objectives, evaluating the impact of strategic design decisions, and contributing to the architecture roadmap. This job is responsible for partnering with leaders across engineering and technology to define objective reliability goals for services. Key responsibilities include composing observability designs through instrumentation and dashboards, identifying root causes of complex/impactful issues, partnering with cross functional teams to deliver sustainable design patterns, and driving early adoption of non-functional production support requirements. Job expectations include automating services to improve reliability and efficiency and influencing a culture of innovation and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable of not only programming languages, but possess the knowledge and problem solving skills to identify issues throughout the technical stack from hardware, to networking, to vendor implementations and application code.

Requirements

10+ years of application development experience preferably in Java and / or Python
10+ years professional experience developing solutions reliant on data stores (relational or object oriented)
Demonstrable knowledge of problem domain in which they have been working
Demonstrable ability to solve problems across the entire technology stake – from hardware, to networking, to OS to application layer
Experience and desire to work in an Agile process (pair programming, daily stand-ups, etc.)
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work comfortably as a team player

Nice To Haves

Familiarity with SSO and SAML based user authentications.

Responsibilities

Works across the business, operations and technology to create the solution intent and architectural vision for complex solutions and prioritize functional and non-functional requirements into a technology backlog to enable the technology roadmap and functionality to support evolving capabilities and services
Contributes to the creation of the architecture roadmap of defined domains (Business, Application, Data, and Technology) in support of the product roadmap and the development of best practices including standardized templates
Clarifies the architecture, assists with system design to support implementation, and provides solution options to resolve any architectural impediments
Facilitates solution driven discussions, leads the design of complex architectures, and finds creative solutions through knowledge of domain, practical experiments, and proof of concepts while ensuring architecture is flexible, modular, and adaptable
Educates team members on the technology practices, standardization strategies, and best practices to create innovative solutions
Supports the team as needed to select the technology stack required for solutions and helps select preferred technology products
Performs design and code reviews to ensure all non-functional requirements are sufficiently met (for example, security, performance, maintainability, scalability, usability, and reliability)
Designs solutions to visualize key production support metrics enabling Operational Readiness and Site Reliability Engineer teams to identify scenarios requiring intervention
Develops software solutions and/or improved processes to address work identified as 'toil' by collaborating with key partners to identify, track and remediate processes to free time allocated to reliability
Partners with Development and Infrastructure teams to create error budget policies prioritizing reliability stories that fall below Service Level Objective (SLO) thresholds and suggests code optimizations, additional instrumentation and/or logging structures to gain service reliability visibility
Identifies and plans for capacity bottlenecks, vulnerabilities and opportunities for reliability improvement, such as low level error rates and 'noise', and reduces manual support effort and/or improves system reliability
Assesses monitoring for new changes with development partners and works with monitoring tools team to monitor dashboards and enhance application and system monitoring designs
Engages as a subject matter expert in incident triage efforts, failure scenario modelling and works with the Problem Manager to diagnose root causes for complex/high impact incident/problem management investigations
Collaborates with Development and Infrastructure teams to understand technical solutions and develop Service Level Indicators and SLOs to measure/improve the reliability of the services they support
