About The Position

Brown and Caldwell (BC) is seeking a Senior Architect to join their Architectural team. This role focuses on designing facilities for water, wastewater, and environmental infrastructure. The position involves performing a full scope of architectural services, including concept design, building code analysis, construction drawings and specifications, detailing, and support throughout the permitting, bidding, and construction phases. The successful candidate will work on diverse projects for municipal, technology, industrial, and federal clients, collaborating with various engineering disciplines. Key project activities include conceptualizing and implementing designs, directing BIM/Revit model creation, developing standard details and specifications, and engaging in multi-disciplinary coordination. The role emphasizes working in a collaborative environment to create innovative and cost-effective designs for new facilities, expansions, upgrades, and retrofits. Remote work is permitted from Mountain and Pacific time zones, with a preference for candidates located near an office for occasional in-person collaboration.

Requirements

  • Expert understanding of architectural structures, building materials, codes and regulations.
  • Advanced knowledge of planning and executing building designs and materials.
  • Strong project management skills with the capacity to manage large projects or processes.
  • Strong decision-making abilities, with a balanced understanding of risk and opportunity.
  • Proficiency in utilizing building design and planning software.
  • Advanced communication and collaboration skills across colleagues and third parties and ability to provide guidance.
  • Ability to prepare for and take architectural licenses exams.
  • Typically requires minimum of 10 years of Architecture experience or related experience.
  • Experience in planning and executing building designs.
  • Project management experience.
  • A degree in architecture, related field or equivalent experience is required.
  • The role shall have achieved professional license.

Nice To Haves

  • 12+ years of architecture experience.
  • Project Architect experience – taking lead on design, coordination, and technical deliverables.
  • Proficiency in Revit and Bluebeam.
  • Proficiency of construction documents (drawings and specifications), with a strong understanding of construction detailing, building science and building systems.
  • Proficient in building codes; and knowledge of national standards.
  • Passion for design excellence, collaboration and willingness to learn.
  • Experience in creating redlines, reviewing milestones, and managing junior staff.
  • Typically will become certified in BC's Subject Matter Specialist (SMS) Framework and progress through the SMS competencies.

Responsibilities

  • Develop plans and specifications for building design and oversee its implementation.
  • Performs regulatory code review to ensure project compliance.
  • Conducts current conditions investigation and create appropriate documentation and reports.
  • Coordinates and reviews discipline inputs to assure total project integration.
  • Recommends building materials and provides advice and insights into materials selection.
  • Oversee building and site aesthetics and ensure they align with project and client expectations.
  • Provides construction support, shop drawings review, RFIs and addendum preparation.
  • Flexibility to adapt and execute various additional assignments based on evolving needs.
  • Continue to participate and maintain the AXP (Architectural Experience Program) documentation.
  • Provide mentorship, guidance, support, and knowledge-sharing to help less experienced team members develop their skills and grow within their roles.
