We are seeking an Architect IV to join our team in Alexandria, VA. Under limited supervision, this role applies technical proficiency to solutions for architectural problems and coordinates related project activities. The successful candidate will be able to work with all levels of staff within the firm and will take initiative to develop research, design, and implement projects from start to finish. The position also supports Business Development and presentation efforts in securing and advancing new projects. Your role involves providing superior architectural team leadership, interacting with senior management, and playing a decisive role in project pursuits. You will make timely design and technical decisions in a collaborative manner while seeking advice from peers and supervisors. The role requires presenting professionally to clients and maintaining a ‘seller-doer’ approach, routinely interfacing with clients to keep them properly informed. You will perform programming, planning, and other conceptual design activities, and develop designs and sketches to be input into Revit-based construction documents, as well as direct a project team to do the same. The position requires demonstrated past ability to lead production of project documents through all stages of design and construction, and to mentor junior staff and lead a project team to produce a complete set of construction documents. You will perform QC review for design & red-line documents for production staff in BlueBeam or using another digital format. You will coordinate with sub-consultants and other disciplines and mentor junior staff to do the same. You will perform QC review and contribute needed information to a specification writer. You will create organized Exhibits in BlueBeam and PowerPoint for client and team review. The role also includes directing & performing (if required) site observation and field work including site investigations, existing facility inventory, and field measured documentation. You will provide Project Managers with status reports of progress on architectural documents. You will complete assignments efficiently, accurately, and in a timely manner, and self-perform quality control on work prior to publication. Regular communication with the team and staying within the hours budgeted for tasks assigned are essential. You will maintain and coordinate project BIM model and demonstrate strong knowledge in construction document standards and conventions. Advanced knowledge of building codes, ADAAG, FEDERAL and STATE compliance requirements, and experience with code review processes are necessary. You will interact with regulatory agencies and achieve consensus. You will consult product manufacturers to evaluate, obtain accurate cost information, select materials, and inspect architectural features in the field. Understanding of building materials and construction methods, strong time management and organizational skills, and the ability to effectively work on several projects or issues simultaneously are also required. You will initiate tasks independently and follow through for delivery as needed, and analyze information to propose effective solutions on your own initiative. The ability to create basic and informative 3D models in BIM or another digital format is also part of the role.
