We are seeking an Architect II to join our team in Alexandria, VA. This role involves applying technical professional proficiency to solve architectural problems and coordinate project activities under supervision. The successful candidate will work in a supportive, team-oriented design environment, contributing as an integral team member for projects of varied sizes and complexity. This opportunity offers in-depth architectural design and construction experience with technical and design mentorship, aiming for architectural licensing and increased leadership within AtkinsRealis' growing Building and Places practice. Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture from a NAAB accredited program required.
  • Minimum 4–5+ years of relevant work experience to include all phases of architectural drafting, detailing, and assisting with the coordination of consultants.
  • Expertise of BIM/Revit.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office.
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Suite.
  • Candidate must be in process of completing the Architect Registration Exam (ARE).
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Possess an Entrepreneurial spirit and a desire for career advancement.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Sketchup and Lumion or other rendering software is preferred.
  • LEED AP is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Support design teams working on various project types such as commercial, rail, transit, aviation etc. through all stages of design.
  • Enhance current abilities and further develop the ability to make timely design and technical decisions in a collaborative manner, while seeking advice of peers and supervisors.
  • Present oneself professionally to clients as well as maintain a ‘seller-doer’ approach.
  • Enhance current abilities and further develop programming, planning and other conceptual design activities.
  • Develop designs and sketches into Revit-based construction documents.
  • Develop the ability to produce a complete set of construction documents in BIM.
  • Welcome mentorship and to take a proactive approach to design and technical professional development.
  • Follow redlined documents for production in Revit and to develop the same redlined skill to be able to hand-off to junior staff.
  • Enhance current abilities and further develop coordination skills with sub-consultants and other disciplines and mentor junior staff to do the same.
  • Develop contributory skills of providing technical information to a specification writer.
  • Create and/or develop organized Exhibits in BlueBeam and PowerPoint for client and team review.
  • Perform site and field work including site investigations, existing facility inventory and field measured documentation.
  • Provide Project Architects/Project Managers with status reports of progress on architectural documents.
  • Complete assignments efficiently, accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Self-perform quality control on work prior to publication or review by senior staff.
  • Communicate regularly with the team and stay within the hours budgeted for tasks assigned.
  • Maintain and coordinate project BIM model and develop a strong knowledge in construction document standards and conventions.
  • Develop a strong knowledge of building codes and experience with code review processes.
  • Consults product manufacturers, to evaluate, and obtain accurate cost information, select materials, and inspect architectural features in the field.
  • Develop a deeper understanding of building materials and construction methods.
  • Work on several projects or issues simultaneously.
  • Work independently or in a team environment as needed.
  • Desire to develop the skills required to analyze information and propose effective solutions on own initiative.
  • Create basic and informative 3D models in BIM or another digital format.
  • Perform such other duties as the Supervisor determine necessary to support the Architecture Practice.
