About The Position

Eaton’s IS VEH VGGP Truck/Commerical MD/HD Transmission and Clutch division is currently seeking a Senior Application Engineer. This Hybrid role requires working on-site Tuesday - Thursday at either our Southfield, MI or Galesburg, MI location. Relocation assistance is not available for this role. The primary function of this position is to grow the business while protecting Eaton from dissatisfied customers or excessive warranty expenses. This position analyzes proposed OEM vehicle configuration requests to determine compatibility with Eaton and ECJV transmissions and clutch products. It proposes alternative vehicle configurations to improve satisfaction and/or reliability. The role involves developing expertise in team software tools used to manage OEM vehicle configuration requests and coaching global ACE region teams on proper product application requirements for transmission and clutch products. The Senior Application Engineer will also participate in the evaluation of new design concepts and support activities that ensure new products meet the needs of the market.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience (Automotive OEM or Tier#1) in an Applications Engineering or Sales/ Product Engineering related support role within the Automotive sector.
  • Must be a U.S. person within the meaning of ITAR (U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident, Political Asylee, or Refugee).
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Must live within 50 miles of Galesburg, MI or Southfield, MI (Active-Duty Military Service members are exempt).

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum 3 – 4 years commercial vehicle experience required.
  • Interest in learning about the global application of Eaton/ECJV transmission and clutch products.
  • Functional knowledge of transmissions and clutches.
  • Experience working within the Truck/OEM Sector.
  • Strong interpersonal / presentation skills, including effective customer interface.
  • Experience in working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, specifically in an international product development/engineering environment.
  • Experience working/managing software Engineering tools for market/data analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Use appropriate TRAG documents to provide NAFTA LD/MD/HD Transmission and Clutch application analysis and disposition (approval/rejection) based on vehicle configuration and vocation.
  • Develop and manage improvements for the Global Application System related tools.
  • Based on understanding of the customer’s requirements, recommends products and technologies to meet customer needs and ensures customer satisfaction.
  • Develop and communicate guidelines and recommendations to both vehicle OEM and end-user Transmission and Clutch customers to ensure optimal drivetrain specification.
  • Build application engineering skills by supporting global ACE regions.
  • Develop and manage improvements to the Global Performance Program, Rules Engine and Transmission Specifications Tool per team goals.
  • Develop new tools and processes to improve efficiency of global ACE application teams.
  • Represent NAFTA ACE team on assigned PROLaunch programs providing input related to applications engineering, duty cycle requirements and customer wants and needs.
  • Represent Eaton ACE teams in industry organizations like TMC.
  • Support improvements to engineering standard work processes.
