Senior Application Developer
About The Position
The Senior Application Developer designs and implements full-stack solutions using .NET technologies, including C#, ASP.NET, .NET Core, .NET 9.0, MVC, Entity Framework, JavaScript libraries, SQL Server, and Azure. The role develops interfaces and integration flows, optimizes database structures and queries, and uses Azure services such as Azure App Service, Azure SQL Database, and Azure Functions to build scalable cloud applications. The developer integrates user-facing elements with server-side logic and connects GIS applications and spatial data with enterprise systems. The position also involves code reviews, troubleshooting, technical documentation, compliance with security and development standards, and communication with team members, stakeholders, and project managers. The role prepares documentation and conducts knowledge transition to support adoption across the organization and other city agencies. The role is based in New York and is onsite for the first three months, then hybrid. The stated duration is 18 months.
Requirements
- At least 4 years’ experience as described in Attachment 2 – City Labor Category Description for Programmer 2.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), or a related field.
- 8 or more years of experience as a full-stack .NET Developer, with hands-on expertise in C#, ASP.NET, .NET Core, .NET 9.0, MVC, Entity Framework, SQL Server, and Azure.
- Knowledge of front-end technologies, including HTML5, CSS, JavaScript libraries, and frameworks such as React or Angular.
- Experience developing and integrating RESTful APIs.
- Experience with geospatial data types in Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle/Oracle Spatial, and PostgreSQL/PostGIS databases.
- Experience with MS-SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Oracle, and/or other geospatial databases.
- Familiarity with web-based geospatial visualization and map library integrations.
- Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to lead cross-functional teams and deliver projects on time and within scope.
- Strong knowledge of software architecture principles, design patterns, and best practices.
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and continuous integration and delivery tools.
- Familiarity with application lifecycle management tools such as Azure DevOps and GitHub extensions.
- Experience with Git and GitHub version control and release management practices.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work collaboratively.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience working with technical and non-technical staff.

Responsibilities
