About The Position

Under general supervision, performs various animal welfare duties caring for impounded animals. While providing excellent customer service, and serving as a point of contact for the incoming and outgoing animals throughout the organization. This role involves guiding, monitoring, and training less knowledgeable employees, scheduling and assigning work, reviewing and checking work, guiding others in work processes, recommending areas for employee skills improvement, and providing input to the employee performance evaluation process. The position also involves daily record keeping of animals, processing adoptions and fosters, providing public education on animal care, and handling administrative tasks such as answering emails and phones.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED, or higher.
  • One (1) year of animal control or attendant welfare experience (companion pet care, husbandry, or animal training).
  • Valid Texas Class "C" Driver's License or equivalent from another state by the date of appointment.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the duties and work progress performed by Animal Care Attendants.
  • Assist in the training of all new Animal Care Attendants.
  • Care for a variety of animals involving feeding, watering, and daily observations.
  • Perform daily cleaning and disinfecting of assigned kennels, yards, and equipment.
  • Maintain assigned equipment and supplies, and report needed repairs to a supervisor.
  • Transport and transfer animals within the shelter and between shelters.
  • Perform pairing and enrichment of animals.
  • Report observed behavior or medical concerns to the Animal Services Supervisor.
  • Assist the public in regards to reclaiming, adopting, fostering, and surrendering pets.
  • Administer microchips and preventative vaccinations.
  • Maintain daily record keeping of animals in assigned areas, including inventory, diet, weight fluctuations, behavior, and medications.
  • Process adoptions and fosters, providing excellent customer service.
  • Review adoption and foster applications based on written guidelines and finalize them electronically.
  • Provide the public with resources and education about proper animal care, husbandry, and responsible pet ownership.
  • Converse with outside organizations and rescue groups.
  • Protect all confidential information, including customers, animals, and internal communications.
  • Answer emails and phones.
  • Take photos and videos of adoptable pets.
  • Schedule surgery appointments.
  • Perform other administrative work.
  • Serve as designated lead worker.
  • Guide, monitor, and train less knowledgeable employees.
