About The Position

Are you a detail-oriented analyst with a passion for using data to drive meaningful decisions? Uncommon Schools is seeking a Senior Analyst, Financial Planning & Analysis to join our Finance team in New York. In this role, you'll own complex financial modeling and analysis that directly supports strategic decisions across our network of schools. You'll work cross-functionally to translate financial data into clear insights for school leaders, regional teams, and senior leadership—making a real impact on how we allocate resources and plan for growth.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field
  • 3–4 years of professional experience, with at least 1–2 years of direct experience in financial analysis, budgeting, or accounting
  • Strong understanding of finance principles, including financial modeling and core accounting concepts
  • Advanced Excel skills, including the ability to build and maintain complex financial models
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to structure and tackle ambiguous questions
  • High attention to detail and strong follow-through on deliverables
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfort learning new tools and systems, with strong digital literacy

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Adaptive Insights or other FP&A platforms
  • Interest in leveraging automation and AI-enabled tools to improve efficiency and insight
  • Experience working in mission-driven or nonprofit organizations

Responsibilities

  • Financial Analysis & Strategic Modeling
  • Own complex financial modeling and cross-regional analysis that supports strategic planning and decision-making, including network growth, staffing, and multi-variable scenarios
  • Critically assess model assumptions, conduct scenario and sensitivity analysis, and communicate implications to Finance leadership
  • Define and monitor key financial metrics that predict and influence the performance of schools, regions, and our organization
  • Prepare accurate monthly and ad hoc financial reports, including variance analysis and clear explanations of key drivers
  • Financial Reporting & Communication
  • Create clear summaries, visuals, and materials that translate financial information for internal stakeholders at all levels
  • Deliver accurate financial reports to senior leaders, charter authorities, state and federal agencies, and other external audiences
  • Communicate complex financial concepts in plain language to audiences with varying levels of financial expertise
  • Systems, Data & Continuous Improvement
  • Maintain reliable analysis outputs by ensuring data accuracy and alignment across Finance tools and reporting systems
  • Support the setup and maintenance of dashboards and reporting views in Adaptive Insights and related tools
  • Identify opportunities to standardize processes, automate routine tasks, and reduce manual rework across the Finance function
  • Collaborate with Finance leadership to strengthen quality control and improve overall workflows
  • Cross-Functional Projects
  • Participate in organization-wide projects that drive key priorities, particularly those requiring financial modeling and analysis
  • Support ad hoc analysis and special projects as needed to meet evolving business needs
