About The Position

The Times is looking for a creative senior data analyst who is passionate about data and eager for the opportunity to support the Times journalistic mission. As part of the Data and Insights Group (DIG), you will join a large community of data analysts who partner with Product, Engineering, Design, and PMO teams across the business. You will report to the Director of Growth Analytics and will be embedded in the Algorithmic Targeting (ALTA) team's Access & Messaging squad, which develops, deploys, tests, and analyzes machine learning models to drive reader engagement and subscription.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience working with data analytics or data science teams to deliver reporting, analysis and insight or a quantitative degree
  • Proficiency in SQL and experience working with relational databases
  • Proficiency in Python or R
  • 1+ years of experience in A/B testing or experimental methods

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Google BigQuery, AWS, or other big data environments
  • Comfort with version control (Github, code review)
  • 1+ years of experience with data visualization tools such as Mode, Tableau, or Lookr
  • 1+ years of experience applying statistics to strategic problems

Responsibilities

  • Write SQL to pipeline and analyze big data
  • Develop dashboards to expand access to data and analytics
  • Perform data-oriented analyses and present them to high-level partners in slide decks and memos to guide team strategy
  • Run A/B Tests and provide scope and analysis
  • Deliver test analysis, advice on future tests and next steps
  • Produce insights, advocating for them and driving them into action
  • Work with analysts on other teams to understand ALTA's contribution to our goals and trends
  • Investigate and visualize relationships between our models' outputs and user segments and behavior, to motivate algorithm improvements
  • Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.
