Senior AI/ML Engineer, Media Understanding

Apple•Cupertino, CA
•Onsite

About The Position

The team builds systems that help Apple understand media, including songs, episodes, shows, and games; identify relationships between content; and use that understanding to power experiences across Apple Music, Podcasts, TV, and Sports. The role is based in Cupertino and serves as the team’s technical presence there, collaborating day to day with partner teams in their timezone, participating in discussions that set direction, and bringing insights back to the wider team. The team is largely based in Barcelona and is part of an engineering group headquartered in Cupertino. The engineer will work closely with engineering, product, and design partners across Apple Services, from early design discussions through delivery. Work includes integrating the team’s capabilities with partner systems, shaping cross-team plans, and representing the team’s work to leadership. The role remains technically engaged with the team’s own systems and suits someone who enjoys connecting teams and shaping direction as well as building, while working across sites and timezones.

  • Clear written and confident verbal communication with engineers and leaders.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in Computer Science, machine learning, or a related field.
  • Experience with multimodal understanding, generative AI, knowledge graphs, or semantic search.
  • Experience with media content or catalogs.
  • Familiarity with Apple Services teams and systems.

  • Represent the team’s work to leadership.
  • Stay technically close to and build familiarity with the team’s systems.
  • Coordinate across sites and timezones, including bringing partner-team insights back to the team.
