About The Position

3Pillar is seeking a talented Senior AI / Automation Engineer for a contract-to-hire (6 months) role to join a client’s new AI Enablement squad. The engineer will be responsible for designing, building, and deploying agentic workflows, process automation, and AI-integrated solutions to enhance productivity and accuracy. This role is crucial in transitioning AI from experimental to a governed, scalable capability. Collaboration with product management, data engineering, and security is expected for delivering pilot use cases, reusable patterns, and policy guardrails. The role reports to the Head of AI. The tech stack includes AWS for cloud infrastructure, managed by Terraform, with Docker and AWS Lambda for containerization and deployment. GitLab is used for CI/CD. This position offers significant opportunity to influence the AI tooling and workflow landscape, including agentic frameworks, orchestration patterns, and integration with existing AWS and data platforms.

Requirements

  • 7+ years in software engineering, with 2+ years focused on AI/ML, automation, or agentic systems.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Hands-on experience building and deploying AI agents, LLM-based workflows, or intelligent automation solutions.
  • Strong proficiency with Python and modern AI/ML frameworks (e.g., LangChain, LlamaIndex, AWS Bedrock, or similar).
  • Experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS, including Lambda, Fargate, Glue, and other serverless technologies.
  • Deep understanding of API design, integration patterns, and event-driven architectures.
  • Strong knowledge of data management, security, quality, and governance best practices.
  • Ability to translate business needs into technical solutions with clear, phased delivery plans.
  • Strong Agile proficiency with practical application to deliver incremental, high-quality solutions.
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills, capable of influencing both technical and business stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage complex project timelines in fast-paced environments.
  • Experience working in a regulated industry and/or Financial Services.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, adept at building collaborative relationships across teams and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and deploy AI agent workflows that enable measurable efficiencies across business functions
  • Implement orchestration patterns including single-agent and multi-agent systems with appropriate state management
  • Integrate AI capabilities with existing tools and platforms via APIs, plugins, and function calling
  • Define and enforce guardrails for agent behavior, capabilities, and permissions in partnership with product and security
  • Build reusable automation patterns and templates that can be adopted across teams
  • Work alongside our data platform team to enable AI-driven analytics and reporting tools
  • Implement monitoring, observability, and feedback loops for deployed AI workflows
  • Ensure responsible AI practices, including fairness, transparency, and risk mitigation
  • Evaluate and recommend AI tooling, frameworks, and model providers based on business needs and cost
  • Stay current on industry trends, emerging AI capabilities, and best practices in automation engineering
  • Mentor engineers on integrating AI into their development workflows
