About The Position

Lumion is seeking a Senior Engineer to build the operating system for trade and technical schools. This role is focused on an AI-First approach, treating AI agents as primary tools to ship comprehensive features rapidly. The engineer will work across multiple projects, using AI for planning, building, testing, and iterating while maintaining quality. The emphasis is on moving the business forward by delivering working software to customers quickly, rather than perfecting isolated tickets. Requirements

  • Agentic Workflow Mastery: Fully developed workflow using AI tools like Claude Code, Gemini, Codex, etc., to generate, refactor, and debug complex codebases.
  • Proficiency with agentic coding tools like Claude Code, Gemini, and Copilot.
  • Deep understanding of Laravel framework, including Service Providers, Facades, and Eloquent.
  • Business Logic Intuition: Ability to translate complex school workflows into clean technical architecture.
  • Database Design & Structure: Ability to model complex domains into well-normalized tables, understand denormalization for speed, and design effective indexes.
  • Shipping Mindset: Value outcomes over output and focus on delivering features to end-users.
  • 5+ Years Experience: Shipping production web applications (SaaS preferred).
  • Proficient with AI agents to orchestrate planning, generation, refactoring, testing, and shipping of production code.
  • Ability to spot when AI is hallucinating or using anti-patterns.
  • Ability to model complex domains into well-normalized tables, know when to denormalize for speed, and design indexes.
  • Must be authorized to work in the US.
  • Alignment with Lumion's timezone for collaboration.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency with vector databases (pgvector/Pinecone) for RAG implementations.

Responsibilities

  • Own problems, not tickets, understanding customer needs and the importance of the work.
  • Make smart technical calls and stay accountable until work delivers real value.
  • Connect technical decisions to the broader product vision and translate customer problems into simple, useful software.
  • Use AI agents (Claude Code, Gemini, Copilot, Cursor) as primary tools for planning, building, testing, and iterating.
  • Verify, refine, and simplify AI-generated output to ensure the product functions as intended.
  • Communicate openly, flag risks early, and speak up when the 'why' is unclear or something doesn't make sense.
  • Work across multiple projects in parallel.
  • Translate complex school workflows into clean technical architecture.
  • Design and structure databases, modeling complex domains into well-normalized tables, denormalizing for speed, and designing indexes.
  • Spot N+1 queries, missing indexes, or migrations that could impact production.
  • Ship features to customers, valuing outcomes over the implementation process.
