Senior Aerospace Structural Engineer

Albers Aerospace•Cincinnati, OH

About The Position

Albers Aerospace is seeking an experienced, collaborative Aerospace Structural Engineer for its advanced jet propulsion team. The role designs, analyzes, and validates primary and secondary structural components for next-generation propulsion and airframe mounting systems, ensuring structures meet strength, stiffness, weight, and durability requirements. The engineer works with materials, manufacturing, testing, aerodynamics, and thermal-control teams. The position includes leading mechanical design of complex assemblies; supporting hardware integration and troubleshooting during laboratory and field testing; supporting environmental qualification; and developing and executing tests to validate mechanical performance and durability. It also contributes to design for manufacturability and assembly, technical reports, proposal efforts, and technical planning. The employee may represent Albers Aerospace at a customer facility, mentor and support onboarding and training, and lead small engineering teams. Duties may change with business needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a field related to structural engineering.
  • At least 5 years of experience in aerospace structural analysis and design, preferably in aerospace, defense, or a closely related discipline.
  • Strong proficiency with CAD tools such as SolidWorks or NX.
  • Experience with rapid prototyping methods, including CNC, 3D printing, sheet metal, or composites.
  • Proficiency with finite element analysis software and classical hand-calculation methods.
  • Familiarity with environmental and durability requirements for defense systems.
  • Ability to work hands-on in a laboratory or integration environment.
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain or hold a security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a discipline closely related to structural engineering.
  • At least 8 years of experience in the field or a related area.
  • Active security clearance.
  • Familiarity with project management principles.

Responsibilities

  • Perform linear and nonlinear stress, buckling, fatigue, and damage-tolerance analyses on metallic and composite structures.
  • Build, refine, and validate complex structural models using ANSYS, NASTRAN, or Abaqus.
  • Create and modify 3D designs and engineering drawings using CATIA or Siemens NX in compliance with GD&T standards.
  • Define structural test plans, oversee physical load testing, and correlate test data with analytical models.
  • Collaborate with aerodynamics, thermal-control, materials, manufacturing, and testing teams to optimize weight and performance.
  • Lead mechanical design of complex assemblies, including enclosures, mounting structures, thermal solutions, and structural components.
  • Support hands-on hardware integration.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and system-level issues during laboratory and field testing.
  • Support environmental qualification aligned with standards such as MIL-STD-810.
  • Develop and execute test plans to validate mechanical performance and durability.
  • Support design for manufacturability and design for assembly.
  • Contribute to technical reports, proposal efforts, and technical planning for new programs.
  • Represent Albers Aerospace on-site at the customer facility.
  • Mentor new team members and manage onboarding activities.
  • Support development of training products and present training.
  • May lead small engineering teams supporting larger projects.
