Sr Aerospace Engineer

SRI International•Remote, CA
•$117,000 - $147,000

About The Position

SRI’s Mission Solutions group provides aircraft survivability equipment (ASE) integration, testing, and support for the U.S. Army. The group has developed and tested threat models and mission data packages across Army programs for more than 35 years. SRI is seeking a Senior Electronic Warfare (EW) Engineer to conduct regional threat analysis supporting U.S. Army aircraft survivability missions. The role assesses adversary capabilities, threat systems, and operational trends; determines potential impacts on aircraft and mission operations; and applies findings to threat models, mission data packages, and ASE testing. The position also leads project planning and execution; supports customer communications; develops and executes ASE ground testing; verifies system and mission software configurations; and provides pilot and crew training in domestic and overseas settings. It leads mechanical design from concept through production, develops and reviews wiring schematics and mechanical documentation, and coordinates engineering work across disciplines to support integration and resolve technical issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Physics, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Hold an active U.S. Government Secret security clearance or be eligible to obtain and maintain one.
  • Ability to analyze aircraft interfaces, including MIL-STD-1553B data buses, Ethernet, power, grounding and bonding, signal wiring, and radio frequency (RF) paths.
  • Experience reviewing interface control documents (ICDs), wiring diagrams, pinouts, aircraft installation drawings, and technical manuals, and verifying system configurations.
  • Proficiency with 2D drafting and 3D modeling tools such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CATIA, or Creo, including creating and revising parts, assemblies, layouts, and engineering drawings.
  • Knowledge of engineering drawing practices, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), fits, clearances, and technical drawing interpretation.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing bills of materials (BOMs), interface drawings, assembly drawings, and supporting engineering documentation.
  • Basic programming or data analysis skills using tools such as MATLAB, Python, or C++ to support calculations, test data review, or engineering analysis.

Nice To Haves

  • At least 10 years of relevant experience in electronic warfare, aircraft survivability, threat analysis, or a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Lead project planning and execution by developing and maintaining project schedules and spend plans, tracking expenditures, forecasting resource needs, monitoring milestones, and coordinating with stakeholders on schedule or budget risks.
  • Attend customer meetings to discuss project status, clarify requirements, answer technical questions, document decisions and action items, and coordinate follow-up with internal teams.
  • Develop, maintain, and execute approved aircraft ASE ground test plans and procedures against applicable system configurations and revision baselines.
  • Verify equipment installation, system interfaces, functional response, and display indications against requirements and acceptance criteria; collect and analyze test data; document results and discrepancies; and support fault isolation, corrective action, and regression testing.
  • Verify ASE and mission software versions and configurations following maintenance or system reinstallation, install approved updates and mission software loads as needed, and conduct functional compatibility checks.
  • Evaluate software performance against operational requirements and recommend updates or changes to improve system performance and mission effectiveness.
  • Provide pilot and crew training in CONUS and OCONUS classroom and on-aircraft settings on aircraft systems, relevant threats, and operational procedures.
  • Coordinate with U.S. embassies, field support representatives, and other supporting organizations to plan and deliver training and related support.
  • Lead mechanical design from initial concept through detailed design and production, including requirements analysis, layouts, 3D modeling, material and component selection, tolerance and fit analysis, structural evaluation, prototyping, design reviews, testing, and refinement.
  • Develop and review wiring schematics and mechanical design documentation from system through subsystem and assembly levels, defining component layouts, interfaces, connections, and integration requirements.
  • Coordinate with electrical, software, systems, and manufacturing teams to resolve design questions and support system integration.
  • Maintain engineering records, document design and configuration changes, contribute to design reviews, and track technical issues through resolution.

Benefits

  • Competitive benefits package.
  • Positions may qualify for SRI’s Pay for Outstanding Performance program or annual Performance Based Compensation program.
