About The Position

The Office of the Deputy Mayor for Community Safety is seeking a qualified individual to serve as Senior Advisor to provide strategic advice and oversee the City’s work supporting community safety. The role requires a strategic thinker with subject matter knowledge and exceptional management, communication, and organizational skills. The Senior Advisor will report to the Deputy Mayor for Community Safety.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • 7+ years of experience.
  • A deep understanding of policy issues related to safety in the City of New York and the provision of services across its five boroughs.
  • Attention to detail and excellent organization skills, including the ability to manage complex projects, sensitive information, analytical data, and multifaceted internal and external relationships.
  • Experience in task and information management, including adhering to targeted deadlines and problem-solving.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Deputy Mayor in developing the Office of Community Safety and associated change management strategies.
  • Advise the Deputy Mayor on policy changes and scaling strategies.
  • Work with senior advisors, agencies, and City Hall staff to drive the Deputy Mayor’s priorities, communicate plans, and execute initiatives and implementation efforts.
  • Manage and coordinate efforts across offices and agencies.
  • In coordination with appropriate City agencies and team members, oversee and monitor agency and City Hall projects, legislation, and policy initiatives to ensure that goals and timelines are met.
  • Represent the administration in meetings with stakeholders, including government officials, cultural leaders, community organizations, and industry professionals.
  • Create talking points, rollout plans, and speeches as needed.
  • Coordinate with agencies, boards, commissions, and organizations as needed for special projects, operations, and implementation.
  • Building a strategic and flexible calendar that is responsive to Deputy Mayor and Administration priorities and emergent needs.
  • Designing a system for tracking, triaging, and responding to requests for internal and external meetings, events, and speaking engagements.
  • Proactively reviewing the Deputy Mayor’s daily schedule and working with the DMCS team to ensure that the Deputy Mayor has all necessary materials for each meeting and event.
  • Leading regular meetings with both staff and the Deputy Mayor to review the upcoming schedule, consider invitations to events, and discuss preparation for meetings.
  • Coordinating high-level logistical support and requests between the Deputy Mayor, Community Safety agencies, and the Mayoral scheduling team.
  • Coordinating the Deputy Mayor’s travel.
  • Ongoing maintenance of contact databases and call lists.
  • Coordinating Deputy Mayor's signature on necessary documents.
