About The Position

The New York City Mayor’s Office is responsible for overseeing city services throughout the five boroughs, coordinating public agencies and departments, and managing public property. The administration is leading the fight in making the city more affordable, reducing inequality, improving public safety, ensuring delivery of efficient and effective services, and working to make New York City’s economy stronger. The Office of Federal Affairs coordinates the City's interaction with the Federal administration and Congress. The office keeps the Mayor and City agencies informed about pending or important issues affecting the City. The office also advocates on behalf of the city and is the DC liaison between the City and other cities seeking to work together on federal issues.

Requirements

  • Ability to work independently and within a fast-paced environment, as well as thrive in a collaborative and supportive team environment.
  • Self-starter who positively contributes to a learning culture and collaborative team and is willing to perform the full range of tasks required in a dynamic and rapidly responsive organization.
  • Ability to quickly absorb complex technical concepts and brief senior staff across City Hall.
  • Thorough knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Exceptional written, oral communication, and presentation skills.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • 8+ years of experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate Degree (MPA/MS), preferred.
  • Experience working with the agencies in the portfolio, a strong plus.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a liaison between the New York City Congressional Delegation, White House, and Federal Agencies and Administration officials, and relevant City agencies and offices, to oversee projects, and develop and implement strategic outreach to elected officials and advocates in furtherance of Mayoral goals.
  • Coordinate with agencies, boards, commissions, organizations, and institutions relevant to Administration goals and policy initiatives, meet project goals and timelines, and review agency and interagency work product.
  • Provide administrative support and coordination, including preparation of correspondence and briefing memoranda, background research, and information for the Director of City Legislative Affairs.
  • Researching local, state, and federal laws, court decisions, and other legal documents, and working with the NYC Law Department to determine legal implications for various policy needs.
