Senior Advisor, Child Protection (P4)
About The Position
Save the Children has been fighting for the rights of children for over 100 years, focusing on the right to a healthy start in life, access to education, and a safe environment protected from harm. The Child Protection Team leads efforts in areas such as children without appropriate care (CWAC), family strengthening, children on the move, counter trafficking, preventing violence against children, child labor, and providing protective services during emergencies. A core component of this work is Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), which includes case management, specialized mental health referral systems, counseling programs, and the HEART program (Healing and Education through the Arts). As the Senior Advisor, Child Protection, you will provide technical support for Save the Children’s Child Protection and MHPSS programs, contributing to strategic directions, developing external partnerships, and strengthening approaches for children's psychosocial well-being. You will also provide technical assistance to country offices for program development, implementation, improvement, and evaluation.
Requirements
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, child protection, or related field or equivalent experience
- At least 7 years of experience in direct implementation of MHPSS programming with children and/or families, or other relevant experience
- Previous work with INGOs, CSOs, or UN agencies
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of key MHPSS, Child Protection, Humanitarian Assistance, and Global Development issues including disaster response, humanitarian assistance, conflict affected populations, and other related areas
- Proven experience providing technical support and management MHPSS and/or broader focused Child Protection programs
- Demonstrated knowledge of public and private funding streams, including key donors such as US Government funding
- Proven experience in program design and proposal development for private foundations, bi- and/or multilaterals, and/or US Government funding
- Demonstrated knowledge of development and humanitarian crisis impact on children’s protection, health, education, and overall well-being
- Willingness and ability to travel approximately 40% of the time, often to complex and difficult environments
- Professional proficiency in MS Office suite
- Professional proficiency in spoken and written English
Nice To Haves
- Previous emergency response or humanitarian experience is preferred
- Second language proficiency - Spanish, Arabic, French or other relevant languages
Responsibilities
- Draw on lessons learned across countries and contexts to inform Child Protection and MHPSS program design
- Provide technical assistance to program teams, assisting with complex problems and bringing multi-country perspectives
- Lead the development of context-specific Child Protection and MHPSS strategies
- Provide assessment, design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation support to country offices
- Build capacity of country offices and other sector staff to design, implement, monitor, and evaluate quality programs
- Monitor new developments in Child Protection and MHPSS programming, management, and evaluation to ensure that program teams apply best practices
- Elevate the importance of Child Protection and MHPSS with internal and external stakeholders
- Prepare and present relevant research at thematic conferences
- Liaise with key partner agencies, task forces and working groups as appropriate
- Support new/existing relationships with key donors (headquarters and regional/country level) and relevant SC colleagues
- Contribute to agency knowledge and decision-making concerning pursuit of funding opportunities
- Lead the development and submission of high quality Child Protection proposals
- Lead the development of donor reports and related assets
- Support country offices to develop case studies, reports, and other multi-media documentation of program innovation and successes
- Liaise with communications teams within Save the Children and our partners to share multi-media assets and support local, regional, and global advocacy
