Buckeye Partners is currently seeking a Senior Advisor, Property Tax experience in oil and gas related industry with substantial experience in all aspects of property tax services to join our team! Role Summary: The Senior Advisor, Property Tax role is responsible for complex ad valorem tax compliance, valuation, and planning matters as directed by Tax Management Team. This role enables the Company's tangible assets are properly assessed, compliant with applicable laws, and free from tax liens.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline (required).
  • 5 – 8+ years’ experience in oil and gas related industry with significant hands-on exposure to all aspects of property tax services.
  • Demonstrated experience responding to audits notices, examinations, and information requests.
  • Expertise in multi-state property tax compliance, including tax provisions and reconciliations.
  • Proven ability to manage multi-state valuation appeals, negotiations, and administrative proceedings.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel (including complex formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in all work products.
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
  • This position requires the ability to safely and successfully perform essential job functions consistent with ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and or/quantitative productivity standards.
  • This role requires the ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • This position requires compliance with all personnel policies.
  • This person must perform duties that require considerable use of arms and extended hours of sitting.
  • Required use of all ergonomically safe equipment in performance of job.
  • Demonstrated commitment to environmental responsibility and regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent communication, both written and verbal, as well as strong organizational skills are paramount.
  • You must work independently and be able to exercise tact, discretion, and professionalism when dealing with internal and external customers, and when handling sensitive and confidential information.

Nice To Haves

  • Property Tax CMI designation (preferred)
  • Familiarity with ITAMlink or similar property tax software (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Analyze federal, state, and local ad valorem tax laws and compliance requirements to identify planning opportunities related to existing assets, potential acquisitions, and project initiatives.
  • Represent the Company in negotiations with local and state taxing authorities, appraisers, appraisal firms, and review boards to achieve fair and equitable property valuations.
  • Prepare and file protests, complaints, and appeals to secure appropriate assessment adjustments.
  • Monitor and analyze changes in state tax legislation and regulations; research and resolve technical issues and communicate impacts to internal stakeholders.
  • Prepare and review multi-state property tax returns, estimated payments, and extensions.
  • Complete property tax provisions and related account reconciliations.
  • Perform property tax due diligence and analyze tax implications related to mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures.
  • Represent the Company during property tax audits, including responding to audit inquiries and supporting and defending tax positions taken on returns.
  • Identify, recommend, and implement process improvements to enhance operational efficiency and accuracy.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and reporting activities related to ad valorem property taxes.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
