Sr Advanced Software Engineer

Honeywell Aerospace•Torrance, CA
•$157,000 - $197,000•Hybrid

About The Position

Honeywell Aerospace’s Controls Systems Environmental Control Systems organization is hiring a Senior Advanced Software Engineer to work on air transport, regional, business, and military aircraft. The role designs, develops, and integrates complex systems to meet customer and business requirements, working with cross-functional teams to ensure system performance, reliability, and compliance with industry standards. The position is based in Torrance, California, on a hybrid work schedule and reports to the Software Engineering Manager. The engineer develops and validates environmental control system (ECS) performance models and simulations, conducts thermal and fluid analyses, defines system and equipment performance requirements, and maintains system-level steady-state models. The role also coordinates modeling and development handoffs with internal and external stakeholders and supports system integration testing, including test planning, execution, data review, and model calibration.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as science, technology, engineering, or mathematics.
  • At least 5 years of experience in mechanical, chemical, or related engineering fields, emphasizing thermal management system modeling and analysis.
  • Strong knowledge of system design principles, integration, and testing methodologies.
  • Proficiency with systems modeling tools and software such as NPSS, SysML, MATLAB, or similar platforms for mechanical thermal analysis and design.
  • Must be a U.S. Person under U.S. export control laws and regulations, defined as a U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, or person with protected status in the U.S. under asylum or refugee status.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Experience in physics-based AI/ML model development.
  • Experience in advanced thermal management and advanced vapor cycle systems design and development.
  • Experience in mechanical engineering thermal simulations, system modeling and analysis, and system integration testing.
  • Familiarity with regulatory standards and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and manage multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and refine ECS performance models and simulations for complex air and vapor cycle systems, including validation and verification of system-level steady-state requirements.
  • Conduct thermodynamic, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics analyses to optimize system performance.
  • Define system- and equipment-level key performance measures and generate and validate associated requirements.
  • Create and maintain system-level steady-state models; optimize model runtime performance; validate models against component and system test data; and generate model documentation.
  • Coordinate system modeling and development processes and handoffs between internal and external stakeholders, and communicate with chief engineering and technical management.
  • Support system integration testing, including facility architecture and requirements, test model definition, characterization test plans and procedures, test execution, data processing and review, and model calibration.

Benefits

  • Employer-subsidized medical, dental, vision, and life insurance.
  • Short-term and long-term disability coverage.
  • 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, and health savings accounts.
  • Employee assistance program and educational assistance.
