About The Position

As a Senior Advanced Project Engineer here at Honeywell Aerospace, you will support the Engines and Power Systems (E&PS) organization within the Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) Project Engineering department. Specifically, you will primarily support an APU development project, as well as in-service APUs for USAF aircraft platforms. You will report to the Sr. Engineering Program Manager, and work out of our Phoenix site on a hybrid work schedule.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as the sciences, technology, engineering or mathematics.
  • Minimum of 5 years of mechanical systems engineering experience; knowledge of gas turbine engine technology is a plus.
  • Minimum of 2 years of Aerospace industry experience.
  • Experience leading complex engineering projects and managing budgets of >$500k.
  • Candidate must be a U.S. Person, which is defined as, a U.S. citizen, a U.S. permanent resident, or have protected status in the U.S. under asylum or refugee status or have the ability to obtain an export authorization.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Previous experience with the design, development, and certification of gas turbine engines is preferred.
  • Strong customer focus with a proven ability to establish and maintain successful relationships with U.S. Government customers.
  • Demonstrated track record of managing requirements and meeting commitments and schedules.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to positively influence customers, teams, and suppliers.

  • Diverse technical background in aircraft systems integration is an asset.
  • Familiarity with technical publications related to gas turbine engines is preferred.
  • Operational knowledge and/or experience with legacy military APU applications is desirable.
  • Experience with inspection and repair procedures for in-service units is beneficial.
  • Strong understanding of EVMS requirements and U.S. Government program execution practices is a plus.
  • Demonstrated use of Six Sigma tools to support problem resolution and process improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Meet technical performance measures and project-specific process requirements.
  • Plan and coordinate all aspects of the assigned engineering work scope.
  • Manage requirements, control scope, and execute baseline change management.
  • Execute projects within budget (including capital expenditures) and on schedule.
  • Utilize Earned Value Management System (EVMS) tools and knowledge, which are critical for U.S. Government programs.
  • Achieve design-to-cost targets and design-for-manufacturability, testability, and reliability goals.
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. Government policies, procedures, and guidelines for new development programs.
  • Communicate project health and status to stakeholders, including CBT, M&PM, and Engineering Leadership.
  • Manage OEM customer relationships through effective communication, collaboration, and status reporting.
  • Work closely and effectively with Repair and Overhaul Engineers to address in-service issues.
