About The Position

HUB International's Alternative Risk Solutions practice is hiring a Senior Actuarial Consultant to lead captive advisory, broking, and quantitative risk analysis engagements. This is a senior consulting role with a team leadership dimension: you will own complex analytical deliverables and market-facing activities end-to-end, mentor junior analysts, and translate captive economics and risk financing alternatives into clear strategic guidance for C-suite, risk management, and board audiences.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience in actuarial analysis, quantitative risk consulting, or alternative risk financing, with significant captive insurance exposure.
  • Demonstrated expertise in TCOR modeling, retention/limits analysis, reserve analysis, and experience rating across commercial lines (GL, Auto, Property, WC, Professional Liability).
  • Hands-on experience with insurance market submissions, carrier negotiations, and captive fronting/reinsurance placement.
  • Strong working knowledge of captive domicile regulations, fronting arrangements, and alternative risk transfer structures; familiarity with onshore and offshore domiciles (e.g., Barbados, Bermuda, Alberta) an asset.
  • Proven ability to develop risk tolerance and risk appetite frameworks and apply probabilistic modeling (Monte Carlo, VaR, TVaR).
  • Valid RIBO licence, or ability to obtain within six months of joining.
  • Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills; proficiency with actuarial software and data visualization tools (VBA/Access an asset).
  • Progress toward or completion of actuarial designations (ACAS, FCAS, FCIA) considered a strong asset.
  • Prior experience supervising or mentoring analytical teams, with excellent presentation and board-level report writing skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead captive feasibility, optimization, and Total Cost of Risk (TCOR) studies across single-parent, group, and cell captive structures, including domicile comparison across onshore and offshore jurisdictions.
  • Manage end-to-end captive program placement: prepare submissions to fronting insurers, negotiate pricing, terms, and collateral arrangements (LOCs, trusts, parental guarantees), and obtain conventional market declinations where required.
  • Conduct retention and limits analysis including SIR optimization, attachment point selection, loss distribution fitting, and severity benchmarking to advise on coverage tower design.
  • Develop client risk tolerance and risk appetite frameworks using probabilistic modeling techniques (Monte Carlo, VaR, TVaR) to stress-test retention strategies.
  • Prepare and review actuarial valuation reports for captive entities in compliance with IFRS 4 and IFRS 17, including reserve adequacy, capital adequacy testing, and loss development analysis across multiple commercial lines.
  • Deliver pro-forma financial projections, cash flow modeling, and investment income analysis to support captive program design and long-term risk financing planning.
  • Author board-ready reports and feasibility studies, and serve as senior technical resource in client meetings with C-suite, risk management, and board audiences.
  • Supervise and mentor junior actuarial analysts; establish peer review and quality standards for analytical deliverables.
