Function Health

About The Position

Function Health is the AI operating system for health, designed to empower people to live 100 healthy years by moving beyond reactive care and enabling proactive, data-driven insight into human biology. The company has been recognized as one of Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies of 2024 and is venture-backed by Andreessen Horowitz (a16z). Function Health recently announced a $298M Series B and is entering its next chapter of growth. Through advanced diagnostics, deep biomarker testing, longitudinal data, and AI-enabled insights, Function equips members with actionable intelligence. The Senior Accounting Manager will be responsible for the accuracy, integrity, and scalability of Function Health’s core accounting operations, ensuring a strong financial foundation during growth. This role involves leading critical components of the monthly close while building the structure, documentation, and controls for a high-performing accounting function. As the company scales internationally and increases operational complexity, the manager will help design and hire the next phase of the accounting team, establish clear workflows and controls, and elevate the function. This is a hands-on, high-impact role for a leader who can operate in the details while building the necessary structure to support a fast-growing, multi-product health technology company. The ideal candidate is energized by fast-paced environments, excited to build in a high-growth setting, and deeply motivated by Function Health's mission.

  • Demonstrated ability to operate independently in ambiguous environments and build processes from the ground up.
  • Proven ability to partner with cross-functional teams, translating business intent into accounting implications and clearly explaining accounting requirements in non-technical terms.
  • Excellent judgment, communication skills, and confidence proposing accounting positions and operational solutions.
  • Experience scaling accounting in a high-growth, multi-product environment and leveraging data, automation, or AI-enabled tools to drive accuracy and efficiency.
  • Exposure to subscription-based businesses or technology-enabled services.
  • Experience implementing or improving accounting automation tools and reporting systems.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting M&A transactions, including purchase accounting, due diligence, and post-close integration of acquired entities.

Responsibilities

  • Own and elevate the month-end close across payroll, cost of sales, prepaids, fixed assets, intercompany, and consolidations, bringing discipline, accountability, and improved timelines to core processes.
  • Lead preparation and review of journal entries, reconciliations, and flux analyses, maintaining a consistently clean general ledger and GAAP-compliant financial reporting.
  • Establish and oversee scalable intercompany processes across domestic and foreign entities, including reconciliations, eliminations, FX accounting, and consolidation adjustments.
  • Design and strengthen internal controls and documentation to create audit-ready processes and financials.
  • Identify structural gaps and implement automation and systems improvements to increase efficiency and reduce manual work.
  • Transition key accounting workflows from outsourced providers to in-house ownership, raising the bar for quality and accountability.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Finance, Operations, People, and external advisors to ensure accounting reflects operational reality.
  • Help shape the future accounting organization, contributing to hiring strategy, role design, and development of a high-performing team.
  • Recruit, mentor, and develop accounting talent, setting clear expectations and a high standard for performance and ownership.
