Senior Accounting & Finance Manager

Maven AGI
$150,000 - $160,000Hybrid

About The Position

Maven AGI is seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Senior Accounting & Finance Manager to help build and scale its finance function. This is a builder's role with accounting at its core, involving ownership of key accounting operations, the monthly close process, and partnering with an outsourced bookkeeping team. The role will also involve building systems, processes, controls, and documentation to support the company through its first financial statement audit and beyond. There will be opportunities to gain experience in FP&A, treasury, SaaS metrics, investor and board reporting, and strategic finance initiatives. The position starts as an individual contributor role reporting to the VP of Finance and is a foundational hire for the internal finance team, offering significant ownership and exposure to company leadership.

Requirements

  • 4–6 years of progressive accounting and/or finance experience, with strong hands-on accounting fundamentals
  • Experience owning or playing a significant role in the monthly close and producing accurate, reliable financial reporting
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and core accounting processes, including reconciliations, AP, AR, payroll, and internal controls
  • Comfortable managing outsourced partners and owning outcomes without needing to personally book every transaction
  • Able to research technical accounting questions, develop a point of view, and drive issues through resolution
  • Highly detail-oriented and organized while understanding how to prioritize and operate pragmatically in a fast-moving startup
  • Comfortable moving between detailed execution and higher-level problem solving — no task is too small when it helps move the business forward

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in public accounting, ideally including Big Four audit experience, is strongly preferred
  • Startup or high-growth technology company experience is preferred, but we're also excited to meet strong public accounting candidates ready to make the jump into a hands-on operating role
  • SaaS experience is a plus, particularly exposure to ASC 606, deferred revenue, and SaaS business metrics
  • CPA or progress toward CPA certification is a plus
  • Experience implementing or improving finance systems, equity/cap table administration, or FP&A is a plus, but not required

Responsibilities

  • Own and improve core accounting processes across AP, AR, payroll, collections, reconciliations, and the general ledger
  • Own the monthly close process end-to-end, partnering with our outsourced bookkeeping team to deliver timely and accurate financial statements
  • Manage revenue recognition, including ASC 606, contract review, deferred revenue, performance obligation analysis, and allocation for SaaS contracts
  • Oversee Accounts Payable through Ramp, including vendor management, approvals, expense reporting, and spend controls
  • Manage Accounts Receivable and collections to support healthy and predictable cash inflows
  • Coordinate payroll and benefits with our People team and PEO, including reviewing sales commission calculations before payroll runs
  • Establish, document, and maintain accounting policies, procedures, internal controls, and close processes
  • Build audit-ready documentation and workpapers to prepare Maven for its first financial statement audit
  • Manage SaaS sales tax and nexus compliance with third-party partners and tools as Maven expands into new states and countries
  • Identify opportunities to improve and automate finance workflows, and help evaluate and implement systems as we scale beyond our current stack
  • Partner with the VP of Finance on budgeting, forecasting, cash management, SaaS metrics, investor and board reporting, and other strategic finance initiatives
  • Help build the playbook for a finance organization that can scale with Maven, with the opportunity to help hire and mentor future team members as the function grows
