About The Position

We are seeking a knowledgeable and customer-focused Senior Accounting Clerk to join our Transactional Services team. Reporting to the Coordinator, Operational Accounting, the Senior Accounting Clerk plays a key role in ensuring the accurate and efficient processing of Accounts Payable transactions for the province. As a subject matter expert, you will provide guidance and support to staff on accounts payable processes, systems, and policies while helping to ensure service excellence for both internal and external clients. You will support staff development through training and mentoring, assist with complex transaction issues, and act as a resource for escalated client concerns.

Requirements

  • 5 years of related experience in a financial administration environment; or an acceptable equivalent of training and related experience.
  • Experience in accounts payable processing, financial administration, or a related accounting environment.
  • Strong knowledge of financial processes, policies, and controls along with strong analytical and decision making skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • The ability to prioritize competing demands and perform effectively in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.

Nice To Haves

  • A post-secondary degree with a focus in accounting/finance or actively working towards a professional accounting designation.
  • Experience using the Government's corporate financial management system (SAP), particularly Accounts Payable (AP) and Travel Expenses (TE) modules.
  • Knowledge of Government financial processes and policies.
  • Experience working in a public sector or large enterprise financial environment.
