Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA required.
  • 5–10+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Proven ability to manage full-cycle accounting independently with minimal oversight.
  • Strong technical accounting expertise and financial reporting experience.
  • Experience building processes and controls in a growing or less-structured environment.
  • Highly self-sufficient with the ability to operate as a one-person finance function.
  • Strong technical accounting capability and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain financial processes and policies to non-accountants.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Practical, solutions-oriented mindset with sound judgment and high integrity.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in agriculture, biological asset accounting, or similar industries is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Own and execute full-cycle accounting: general ledger, journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close.
  • Prepare accurate and timely monthly and annual financial statements.
  • Manage the end-to-end procure-to-pay process, including invoice processing, approvals, and payments.
  • Oversee accounts payable, ensuring accuracy, proper coding, and strong audit trails.
  • Manage cash flow, banking, and treasury activities, including cash forecasting and payments.
  • Process payroll and ensure accuracy and timeliness of employee compensation.
  • Manage government remittances, including payroll-related filings and GST filings and payments.
  • Establish and maintain internal controls across purchasing, payments, payroll and cash management.
  • Develop and implement policies for payables, credit cards, and employee expenses.
  • Train operational staff on financial processes and ensure policy compliance.
  • Support accounting for inventory and biological assets, including valuation, tracking, and reconciliation.
  • Identify process improvements and build scalable, practical financial operations.
