About The Position

Smythe LLP is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our growing Private Company Group. This is an excellent opportunity for a CPA or CPA student who enjoys working directly with private company clients, developing technical expertise, mentoring junior team members, and contributing to a collaborative and high-performing team. This role is based in our Vancouver office, with the opportunity to work in a hybrid environment following the completion of the probationary period. As a Senior Accountant, you will work closely with Managers, Senior Managers, Partners, and clients to deliver Assurance, Advisory, and Tax services to privately held businesses across a wide range of industries. You will take ownership of client engagements, develop meaningful client relationships, and play an important role in supporting and mentoring junior team members. Requirements

  • CPA designation or enrollment in the CPA Professional Education Program (PEP)
  • Minimum 3–5 years of public practice experience, preferably serving private company clients
  • Strong technical knowledge of accounting standards, financial statement preparation, and tax compliance
  • Experience preparing and reviewing compilations and review engagement files
  • Proficiency preparing corporate and personal income tax returns
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusted client relationships
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a deadline-driven environment
  • A collaborative, client-focused, and professional approach

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review compilation engagements, review engagements, and working paper files for private company clients
  • Prepare corporate, partnership returns, personal and trust income tax returns, and related tax compliance filings
  • Assist clients with accounting, financial reporting, and business advisory matters
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through proactive communication and exceptional client service
  • Identify issues, provide practical solutions, and escalate complex matters to Managers and Partners as appropriate
  • Manage multiple client engagements and competing priorities while meeting deadlines and maintaining quality standards
  • Mentor and support Accountants and junior team members through coaching, technical guidance, and file reviews
  • Collaborate with Managers and Partners to deliver high-quality client service and contribute to engagement success
  • Stay current with accounting standards, tax legislation, and industry developments
