Senior Accountant - 4-Day Work Week

McLenehan and Associates Chartered Professional AccountantsWinnipeg, MB
Onsite

About The Position

Most accounting roles are built to grind people down. Tax season burnout. Evenings and weekends lost to a pile of files that never shrinks. Forty, fifty, sixty hours a week, and that is just considered normal. We decided normal was not good enough. At McLenehan and Associates, our Senior Accountants work four days a week. Thirty-two hours. No evenings, no weekends. Not a perk. A standard. And the work itself? No audits. You are doing real advisory work: helping business owners understand their numbers, build more profitable companies, and make smarter decisions. The kind of accounting that actually challenges you and keeps you sharp. If you are a CPA who refuses to believe that great work requires a great sacrifice, keep reading. The Senior Accountant is a cornerstone role here, one that directly shapes the financial health and confidence of the small business owners we serve. This is not a compliance-factory position. This is relationship-driven, advice-forward work where your expertise creates real, measurable impact for real people. You will own a diverse portfolio of individual and corporate clients, managing Compilation and Review financial statements, Corporate and Personal Income Tax returns, and the kind of advisory conversations that make clients feel like they finally have a financial partner they can trust, because they do. McLenehan and Associates is a growing Winnipeg-based firm built on the belief that small business owners deserve exceptional financial guidance. Our growth has been driven by referrals and the quality of our work. You will play a direct role in sustaining that reputation and deepening those relationships. If you thrive on variety, take pride in precision, and get genuine satisfaction from helping a business owner see their numbers clearly and act on them confidently, this role was built for you.

Requirements

  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation. This is non-negotiable.
  • 4+ years of experience in a Senior Accountant role, with a proven track record of delivering results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Hands-on experience in a public accounting firm. You know how this world works and you are ready to hit the ground running.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple clients and engagements simultaneously without dropping the ball.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with small business tax planning strategies and owner-manager compensation structures. This is where the real advisory value is created.
  • Experience with Compilation and Review engagements under CSRS 4200 and financial reporting under ASPE and ASNPO.
  • Working knowledge of tax software commonly used in Canadian public accounting practice.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare 70 to 100 Compilation and Review engagements annually that meet applicable financial reporting standards (CSRS 4200 and ASPE/ASNPO), and meet them with excellence, every time.
  • Go beyond the numbers: focus on the metrics that actually matter to small business owners, including Quick and Current Ratio, Leverage and Debt-to-Equity, Gross Profit Margin and Percentage, Management Compensation, and Net Profit, and use them to tell a story that drives action.
  • Meet with clients to walk through your finished work, deliver professional advice with confidence, and leave every conversation with the client knowing exactly where they stand and what to do next.
  • Prepare 70 to 100 T2 Corporate Income Tax Returns annually with a sharp focus on tax planning opportunities for owner-managers of small business corporations, because finding savings is part of delivering value.
  • Develop client-specific income tax and owner compensation plans that maximize tax efficiency and minimize leakage, so your clients keep more of what they earn.
  • Complete 100 to 200 T1 Personal Income Tax and Benefit Returns each year with a high degree of accuracy and a commitment to applying the very best in current personal tax planning. Not just filing, but optimizing.
  • When a complex problem lands on your desk, you dig in: research the issue, pressure-test your conclusions with colleagues, and communicate the solution to clients with clarity and confidence.
  • Respond to client emails and calls quickly and thoughtfully, because responsiveness is respect, and our clients notice.
  • Continuously look for ways to personalize the client experience, deepen relationships, and create moments that make clients feel genuinely valued, not just serviced.
