About The Position

Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology seeks a detail-oriented and collaborative Senior Accountant to join the Financial Affairs Department. This position is responsible for preparing and analyzing financial and operational information to support regulatory filings, external reporting requirements, and institutional decision-making. The Senior Accountant researches applicable accounting and reporting requirements to ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional standards, while monitoring deadlines and reporting obligations to support timely and accurate submissions. The Senior Accountant oversees the preparation of assigned sections of the Institute’s annual financial statements and related footnotes, ensuring adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other relevant reporting standards. This role coordinates audit-related activities, including the preparation of supporting documentation and responses to inquiries from internal and external auditors. In addition, the position prepares a variety of recurring and ad hoc financial reports and assists with the design, implementation, and execution of internal control and audit functions to promote the accuracy and integrity of financial data. Working closely with campus stakeholders, the Senior Accountant supports the development and administration of the Institute’s annual operating and capital budgets. Responsibilities include maintaining budget records, processing adjustments and updates, configuring and supporting budgeting and financial reporting systems, and providing financial information and guidance to budget managers across campus. The position serves as a resource for financial reporting and budget-related questions, helping departments effectively manage resources and make informed financial decisions. This position also performs general accounting functions, including reconciling assigned general ledger accounts, preparing and posting adjusting journal entries, and analyzing revenue and expense activity. The Senior Accountant monitors financial transactions for accuracy and completeness, identifies trends or discrepancies, and recommends corrective actions when necessary.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field.
  • Five to seven years of progressively responsible experience in accounting and financial management.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Sound judgment.
  • Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to a variety of audiences.
  • Advanced proficiency with accounting systems, databases, and spreadsheet applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, governmental regulations, financial statements, and legal documents.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare and present financial reports, business correspondence, policies, procedures, and other documentation.
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.
  • Ability to interact with various levels of personnel.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in accounting, finance, or business administration.
  • Eight years of significant experience in accounting and financial management.
  • Experience working in a private college or university setting.
  • Knowledge of Ellucian Banner.
